CHARLES HAY WORLD SCHOOL IB
COUGAR NEWSLETTER
Principals Message
September 1, 2023
Dear Charles Hay Families,
Thank you for bringing your children to their assessments this week. Our staff gather valuable information to inform their instruction from these assessments. Speaking of assessments, I have some exciting news to share with you about the recent scoring of Charles Hay World School on the Colorado School Performance Framework (SPF).
Each year, Colorado schools receive performance ratings to let them and their communities know how well they are doing. The SPF provides insight into strengths and areas for improvement in Colorado schools. It takes into account various factors, including academic achievement and academic growth.
I am happy to report that our school scored ‘Performance’ on the SPF from the 2022-2023 school year! This is the highest rating schools can receive. If you remember, the score was ‘Turnaround’ from the 2021-2022 school year which is the lowest rating schools can receive, so it is a huge increase. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students, teachers, staff, and the support of our community. Your active involvement and support have played a significant role in our school's success. We had very few students opt out of testing which gave us more accurate data. Your partnership is invaluable to us, and we encourage you to continue being active participants in your child's education and in our school community.
A key highlight of our school's performance was academic growth: The growth our students have shown over the past year is remarkable, especially in English Language Arts, which was a focus of our work last year. It reflects our commitment to providing a nurturing environment where every student can reach their full potential.
While these achievements are a reason to celebrate, we also recognize that there are areas where we can continue to improve. Our commitment to excellence means that we will always strive for better outcomes and opportunities for our students. We are working hard to address any challenges and refine our practices to ensure that each and every child in our community receives a high-quality education.
Thank you for being an integral part of our community and for your continued support of our school.
Sincerely,
Keely Rochford
Principal

Library Volunteers Needed!!
We are going to start allowing classes to check out books starting Next Wednesday, Sept 6th.
Here are some ways you can help-
- Classroom Library time- Sign up for a 30 min time slot that works for you to help a class check out books, find books in our catalog, or read aloud during library time.
- Shelving returned books- This can happen during school hours or after school hours, whatever works best for you.
- Updating Bulletin Boards- We will be updating our bulletin boards on a monthly or bimonthly basis. This will include taking down the current theme and updating with the new one.
We have created a video for teachers to show their students about the procedures and expectations in the Library. It is also important for our volunteers to hold the kids accountable for these things as well. Here is a link to the video.
If you have not yet filled out the Volunteer Application please fill out the form before volunteering and bring it to the Front Office with your Drivers License- HERE

Charles Hay Bike Bus!
What is a Bike Bus: a group of people that bike together on a set route at a set time.
Hay Bike Bus: one of our parents, Laura Simmons, is spearheading our first ever Hay Bike Bus!
Information from Laura: We are starting a bike bus! If your kiddo lives in the boundary of Yale-Logan-Girard-Downing and would be interested in biking to school, I am creating a route to pick up kids and ultimately arrive at school as a group.
Kids must be able to confidently ride a bike in the street, and have a helmet & bike lock. If you need help with helmets or locks, please let me know. We will set up corner meetups along a designated route where kids can wait to be picked up by the group. We will aim to arrive at school between 7:30-7:35 so kids can then go inside for school breakfast or play before school. It’s a great way to get kids to school happy, hearts pumping and excited. Would you like to be part of this growing trend and get kids moving?
If you would be interested in a bike bus outside these boundaries, let me know! I am happy to coordinate and create routes. One willing adult volunteer would be needed for each route for safety.
Interested or have questions? Email Laura Simmons at lsimmons37@gmail.com
