Summer Term - 24th May 2023
Message from the Head of School
Dear Parents/Carers
The sun has been shining this week and it really is starting to feel like summer! As we progress through the summer term, the year 6 children start to realise that their time at HJS is coming to an end and in doing so begin to reflect on their time at our wonderful school. They have started putting together their leavers book and it has been a joy reading some of the inspirational quotes they have recorded. These include:
'I have become more confident at challenging myself'
'I have seen my ability to do more things independently improve'
'Since joining HJS my confidence has grown massively!'
We are all incredibly proud of the year 6 children and hope they enjoy their final few weeks at HJS - there are lots of exciting events planned!
This week we have also had the year 3 showcases. This is a great opportunity to view a snippet of the wonderful work your children have been completing . Again, parents have commented on how far the children have come in their first year at HJS and how proud they are of all their achievements. Well done to all our pupils and keep being the 'best you can be!'
On our return year 4 will be completing their Multiplication Tables check. This is a national assessment that all year 4 children are required to take. Please spend some additional time over the holidays practising their times tables skills.
Finally, a reminder to check your child's pencil case over the half term to ensure they have the correct stationery. Inkpot opens every Tuesday and Friday lunchtimes so your child may purchase any additional items they need.
Please remember that tomorrow is an INSET day and we look forward to seeing you all after the half term break.
Mr Jon James

Messages from the Office
Picking Up and Collecting Children
Please may we remind you to be mindful of where you park when you drop off or collect your children. We have had a complaint from Linden Hall that HJS parents are using their carpark. This is of course private property and we would request that you park elsewhere.
Furthermore as a reminder it is both illegal and dangerous to park or drop off outside the school gates. For the protection of all children and adults again please do park elsewhere when dropping off or collecting your child.
Jewellery
May we remind you of our uniform policy in relation to earrings.
"Children are not allowed to wear jewellery such as necklaces or bracelets (unless required for medical or religious reasons). They will be asked to remove any during the day. Children can wear a single pair of small, simple stud earrings which must be removed at home before PE/Games lessons".
Please do not send your child into school in earrings which do not conform to our uniform policy.
Sports for Champions
I am pleased to let you know that on Wednesday 14th June we have an international athlete coming to HJS to deliver an inspirational assembly followed by a sponsored fitness circuit. This will involve an assembly where the athlete will talk through their journey throughout their career and share the setbacks they were faced with. There will also be an opportunity for the students to ask any questions.
Sports for Champions are a community interest company who encourage everyone to take part in exercise, regardless of their athletic ability. On that note, we are asking for a small donation to sponsor the children during their fitness circuit that they will be completing on the morning of the assembly. Please note, any donations, no matter how small, is very much appreciated.
If we raise a sufficient amount of funds, 60% of the proceeds will go towards the school to enhance children’s sporting education.
I am sure this is going to be a memorable experience for all children!
Year 3 News
This week, the children in year 3 have been using an enquiry approach to learn about the Olympic games as part of their Ancient Greeks history topic. The children enjoyed answering questions and understanding how sources can tell them about the past.
