Week 3 - WIN-WIN
Last Wednesday, we started a new WIN Choice Time system, which was a huge hit. WIN stands for What I Need, and students get the choice from a list of options teachers provide. Options range from Academic Study Hall or Extra Help for specific subjects, Social-Emotional Connections, Cultural Involvement, and Mental and Physical Exercise. These activities are posted each week in their advisory classes and students sign up for WIN.
Students' responses about WIN were fantastic and we heard things like: "It was so nice to have a break and do something different. It made the rest of the week better." "I got extra help from a teacher to clarify what we were learning." "I got to connect with other students, and we learned a new cheer we can use at games when supporting our teams."
You should start to see grades being posted in Skyward. If you have questions about your student's academic progress, please email their teacher. You can find their emails listed on our website's SHS Directory.
We are looking forward to another outstanding week at SHS. As always, if you have questions, please reach out to us.

Reminder: Parent Acknowledgment for Student & Family Handbooks
Update: We have had 56% of parents complete the Parent Acknowledgment for Student & Family Handbooks by Friday. If you have not completed this, a reminder went out over the weekend. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact the school.
We are asking that parents please review this and the 2023-2024 Steilacoom Historical School District Family and Student Handbook and complete the form indicating you have reviewed and understand where the handbooks are located. This form was sent out on 9/11/2023.
Lunch Time and Hallway Pass Reminders
During Lunch Time, the upstairs level, gym level, and side hallways on the Main Floor are off limits for students. Students have been informed of this over the past few weeks. Failure to comply may result in after school detention.
Also our new Hall Pass expectation requires a student to have a teacher provided hall pass in their possession. If students are in the hallways without this pass, they could be marked as truant and disciplinary action may follow.
Teen Mental Health First Aid Training for Students
Students who are interested in Teen Mental Health First Aid can attended this training being offered at SHS. Register here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScWZ5RlNvY3hi1RGWrGN5d9ozU4S1azRQYtO7r3DPDNI09hbQ/viewform?usp=sf_link
Counselor Corner
Running Start Students Update
On Friday, we were informed that Pierce College has had a "service disruption" that has taken some of their computer systems completely offline. Because of this issue, Pierce is unable to review any enrollment verification forms (EVF) submitted after July 18. This creates a big impact to our student population, and that is why we are sending this message now.
The following outlines what the Pierce College expectations are in light of this unexpected change.
- If you submitted your Fall 2023 EVF after July 18, you must resubmit your EVF by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, September 12 to avoid disruption in your class schedule.
- If you submitted for Fall 2023 EVF before July 18, you should verify that they still have your EVF.
- If you have recieved a tuition charge for the Fall semster, they are instructing you to resubmit your Fall EVF.
- Here is the link Pierce has provided to assist you.
While we are disappointed with the situation at hand, we hope this error doesn't prevent you from accessing the college credits you are seeking. Please contact your Steilacoom High School counselor if you are experiencing any issues getting an EVF completed. We are happy to help you navigate through this challenge.
Student Parking Passes
Student Parking Passes can be picked up at no charge.
Students must register (must be signed in on student's Google account) their car with the school and have their parking pass clearly positioned on their windshield at all times if they park at SHS.
Parking Passes will be available Tuesday, September 5th at the ASB Bookkeeper.
Parking Passes will be enforced starting this week.
