From the Principal
Happy Friday Hawkins Families,
I can’t believe that we are a week out from Thanksgiving Break. It is also hard to believe that we just had the only full week of school for November. We definitely made the most of it, cramming in so much. This week we welcomed a new 4th grade teacher. Mr. Dewey will be shadowing Mrs. Wood’s class the next few days and then Mr. Dewey will fully take over after the break.
We've kicked off our Toys for Tots campaign. This year we have a very short window to collect toys. The Brighton Ford Santa night is December 7th from 5-8 pm. This means we have no time to spare in sending in those toys. The process is simple, send in a new unwrapped toy to your child’s classroom. Our 4th grade “elves” will collect and count them daily. We have set the goal of 1,500 toys, so we have to really pick up the pace! As incentives, the 4th grade students decided that if we reach 1,000 toys we will have a pajama day. If we get to our goal of 1,500, we will do a teacher swap day. Teachers will draw out of a hat, and then teach another class for one period. This week we also had our medical response drill for our staff, and it went so well.
On Monday morning, the Brighton High School marching band will be here to perform. This will take place outside in the large parking lot by Lee Road, so after drop off we ask that no cars park in this lot. The performance will be at 9:15. I have a busy weekend, with a couple college games to ref, and I am going to go to Port Huron to have dinner with my youngest daughter, who is a police officer there. Have a great weekend, Go Blue, Go Lions.

Holiday Shop 12/8 - 12/14
The Hawkins Holiday Shop is just around the corner! December 8th-December 14th the backroom of the cafeteria will be transformed into an amazing holiday gift shop for any and all interested students to come and shop for their loved ones! Students will shop 1:1 with a parent volunteer and select gifts for family members and then bag and label them to bring home to deliver! There will be a lot more information coming home on the ins and outs of student participation in the holiday shop but before anything else we need volunteers to sign up to shop with our students! Volunteer times are set up in morning and afternoon slots but you are welcome to sign up for as many times/days as you'd like! WE CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY VOLUNTEERS! Grandparents and family members are welcome to volunteer as well- just remember all volunteers must complete the background check! (Link available on the sign up genius.) If you have any interest in helping with the holiday shop please follow the link to our sign up genius and sign up where you can! If you have an interest in helping organize the holiday shop please email sisson.jessica@gmail.com as we are in need of future committee chairs and would love to help other parents learn the ropes before our kids leave Hawkins in the coming years!

Cold Weather Gear
The cold Michigan weather has arrived! Please make sure your child comes to school dressed for the weather. That includes coats, gloves, hats, and snow boots (if there is snow accumulation on the ground). Hawkins does not have extra gear to loan out. We appreciate your help!
Just In Case Clothes
Please make sure your child has an extra set of clothes in their backpack and/or locker in case of accidents or emergencies (i.e. bathroom accidents, playground mishaps, lunchroom spills, ripped or torn clothes, etc.). We do not have extra clothes to lend out. An extra set here at school saves parents an extra trip to Hawkins during the school day. We appreciate your help!!!
Parent Connect
Parent Connect a web-based application that allow parents/guardians to view information for your child's current school year. Logging into Parent Connect will enable you to see your child's placement (date to be determined), report card, and lunch account. In addition, parents/guardians can add or change emergency contacts. Parent Connect Reported Absences
A new feature in Parent Connect will allow you to enter your student’s absence. Simply log into parent connect and click on the link Report Absence. The Report Absence link will open a screen for you to complete. If you have more than one student check the name of the student for whom an absence is being submitted. Add the applicable dates. If you check the All Day flag attendance will be submitted for the am and pm periods. If you do not check the All Day flag times must be entered and attendance will be submitted for whichever periods meet during the time range (based on period schedule).
Reporting An Absence on the Attendance Line
