Mill Creek Magic Messages
News and Updates from Mr. Croyle and Mr. Murtha 9/29/2023
From Mr. Croyle and Mr. Murtha
Although last weekend was a pretty soggy one, timing was on our side for our Mill Creek Food Truck Event last Friday night! Our event beat the rain... what a turnout! We were very excited to have the opportunity to bring our Greater Community together to enjoy some food, company, and fun. Many, many thanks to Mill Creek Home and School for organizing this wonderful event!
Also, today we held our first "Magic Show" assembly, which provided us with an opportunity to pull tickets from Creekers' Codes earned over the past month and award some staff "Difference Maker" t-shirts (we have a hunch these are going to become pretty coveted items!). We even pulled our first "Magic Ticket", which comes with a staff t-shirt and lunch with Mr. Croyle. Mill Creek's first ever "Magic Ticket" recipient was 4th Grade student, Dhir P.!
As we will do in all future "Magic Shows," we took time to thank a Community helper, recognizing Kremp Florist for their kind donation of mulch for our outdoor gardens - they are looking good!
Additionally, we recognized two Mill Creek students were selected by our staff among a number of nominated students for some special awards...
- Our Creekers' Code Character Counts Award, which focused on C - Cooperation, was awarded to 6th Grade student, Maxwell B.
- The We Salute You Award was awarded to 3rd Grade student, Luke S.
Family members of both students were able to join us to be a part of this celebration/recognintion!
Our "Magic Show" assembly also included music, fun, and projected images of an amazing first month of school!
Finally, we were honored to have speaker Ben Hartranft address our student body, sharing how he has used his autism diagnosis as a strength in his life and the importance of understanding and recognizing the strengths in our differences, which make us unique!
Have a wonderful weekend as we roll into October!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION...
- The District is requiring that family members have their Volunteer Clearances to enter the school for any events involving direct supervision of students (e.g. classroom celebrations; school dances). Any volunteer role in the school would fall under this designation. The link to apply for volunteer clearances is directly below.
Human Resources / VOLUNTEER Required Paperwork (cbsd.org) - A reminder that, during student hours, individuals who do not attend or who not employed at Mill Creek are not permitted on outdoor school grounds, such as fields and outdoor blacktops. We appreciate your cooperation as we work to keep our students safe.
- As items can be misplaced in classrooms and beyond, please label appropriate items with your child's name, so we can better locate them if they become separated from your child. Thank you for your help!
TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION: - Teachers should have a clear understanding of how each student is leaving school on a daily basis. If, for some reason, you change your child’s typical routine, please communicate with the office staff and homeroom teacher before 3:00PM.
- Office Staff
- Bernadette Quindlen (bquindlen@cbsd.org)
- Jackie Guth (jguth@cbsd.org)
- For our Private Car Riders, we will be sending home a “placard” for each family. Most likely, we will hand this placard directly to you during dismissal over the next few days. Please make sure to write your family’s name on the placard and have it on display when picking up your child.
- If your child is a BUS RIDER and is in kindergarten or first grade, you must be present at your child’s bus stop. If the child has an older sibling on the bus to assist, simply inform the bus driver so that he/she is aware.
- During the first week or two of school, transportation can be delayed. The school district is constantly trying to revamp routes, etc…to make things more efficient. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
- During the first week of school, we will be closely observing our arrival and dismissal practices. During these observations, safety is my number one priority. If I see the need to make any adjustments, I will make sure to effectively communicate with the community.

Home and School Association News and Flyers
- We are pleased to share that we are in a position this year where we will not be asking for HSA dues from families. This includes no need to solicit for classroom party funds this year. We will likely need to resume soliciting dues in future years, but we hope this news for the 2023-2024 school year comes as welcome news!
- Please know that, while dues will not be solicited this year, there will likely be times when we ask for payment for activity fees. As is always the case, please reach out to the Mill Creek Main Office if an activity fee is solicited and your family may have difficulty with payment - we are here to help!
- The District is now insistent that adult visitors to school buildings beyond the main office have their Volunteer Clearances. There is an application process, which only takes a bit of time and is fairly simple. The link below will take you to a page with detailed information about obtaining your Volunteer Clearances.
