Food Distribution During Vacation
A Message From Mrs. Phelan
Greetings Lowell Families,
I hope you and your kids enjoy the snow coming our way this weekend and next week. It is so important for our kids to get outside, play, and have fun. The same must be said for how we can help them to be resilient through the pandemic. This long, unprecedented experience has no doubt been difficult for them (and all of us). We should be very proud of how our school community has rallied with remote and hybrid instruction and made the best of our shared situation. Perhaps the silver lining of this experience is that we all recognize the importance of our strong community.
Relax, rejuvenate, and refresh!
Stacy
Travel Over Vacation
Please note that according to the Massachusetts Travel Order, in order to return to school in person, your family must quarantine for 14 days if you travel outside of the state to high-risk states (all states with the exception of Hawaii are considered high risk) or your child(ren) has a negative PCR test.
Participating in our pooled PCR testing meets that requirement. More guidance about the travel restrictions can be found here. This order applies to day trips out of state as well.
Increase in Synchronous Learning Starting March 3rd
Students will log in to their classroom Zoom link at 1:40, and stay through Closing Circle. This will allow for a 90-minute increase in weekly instruction with the teacher.
Instead of alternating days between the two subjects, classes will focus more intensely on one unit at a time (science or social studies).
Students already enrolled in other personalized services during this time will continue with these services unless it is directly communicated to you otherwise.
We ask that you begin to think about your afternoon childcare and schedules and plan accordingly so that students are able to access this additional instruction with their classroom teacher.
Kick-off of Student Diversity Council
We are excited to kick off the first-ever Lowell Student Diversity Council! This first meeting will be a meet and greet and introduction to the topic, “What is Diversity?” We will also preview some of the books that we will use to guide the discussion. We look forward to the students participating in this wonderful addition to the Lowell community!

Watertown Kingian Principles Scavenger Hunt
As part of honoring the legacy of Dr. King, the Kingian Response Team is highlighting his six principles of non-violence through a community-wide scavenger hunt. There are three sets of the six individual principles displayed on yard signs in different public places throughout Watertown from Jan18th (MLK Day) through February 21st. The challenge for families and community members will be to find all six – a unique kind of a scavenger hunt!
The principles provide a framework for achieving a more just world and guide us to a more ‘beloved community’. Our hope is that the signs will provide an opportunity for the Watertown community to learn about these principles and engage in productive and courageous
conversations.
There is also a QR code that will provide your family with information about the principles and our pledge to ‘Listen, Learn, Grow and Act,’ to end racism in our community, and additional activities for all.
Enjoy your walking search and good luck!
