Thank You Veterans!!
Our 25th annual Veteran's Day Celebration looked different than in years past but was still a success!! We were honored to pay tribute to the Veterans that came to our drive through celebration on Nov 11th. The Veterans drove through student-lined streets arriving to the middle school band playing patriotic music while gifts were handed to our veterans. This year's video can be viewed by accessing the following website www.gaylordschools.com or search FaceBook for www.facebook.com/Gaylord-Community-Schools.
Introducing Casey Stradling
I am a graduate of Petoskey High School class of 1996. Following a brief time working with family and coaching, I decided to further my education and enrolled at Grand Valley State University. I moved my family to the city of Grand Rapids where I earned my undergraduate degree with a physical education major and a biology minor. During my time at Grand Valley I was fortunate to be able to compete on the GVSU wrestling team and also coach wrestling at all developmental levels while earning my undergrad. After ten years of teaching in the southern half of the state, I am excited to be back in northern Michigan and I appreciate the opportunity to teach at Gaylord Middle School. I have just concluded my first season as the GHS JV football coach and I am now moving into the wrestling season, where I will be assisting at the high school.

Penny Wars & Canned Food Collection
The students of GMS will be competing in the Penny Wars November 29th through December 3rd, so start saving up! Individual classes are pitted against each other in a friendly competition to raise money to support the Kiwanis Christmas Basket Program. Here is how the competition works: Each class collects its own pennies and nonperishable food items. In addition, each class can put nonpenny money in the jars of the competing classes. At the end of the week, each class subtracts the total of the nonpenny money from the total of the pennies and food items to determine their point total. The class with the highest point total wins. The money and non-perishable food items are donated to Kiwanis to help fill baskets for local families in need. The classes get very competitive and have a lot of fun supporting this important cause!
Athletics
Girls basketball & wrestling tryouts will begin the week of January 3rd.
All student athletes must have a current physical on file in the GMS office in order to participate.
