Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night
Order Chick-fil-a between 5 pm and 8 pm must include the word 'Spirit Night" in the notes for us to get credit. No Order is too big or too small.
STUDENT VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT - WINNERS PLAY THE STAFF TEAM
The CMIT South volleyball team is hosting a student volleyball tournament the week of May 15-19th to raise funds for their upcoming season. Each day that week, games will begin right after school and multiple games will be played. The final schedule will be determined based on the number of teams that sign up. The winner of the student tournament gets to play the staff in the championship match on Friday, May 19th!
If you are interested in participating, please read the information below:
- Each team must have between 6-10 players.
- Each team must have a minimum of 2 girls on the team.
- Sign up your entire team using ONE registration form (link below).
- Each TEAM must pay a $50 entry fee to participate. This is the cost for the entire team, not individually. It is up to teammates to determine how they will split the $50 cost among themselves.

Your team registration form and entry fee must be received by 8pm on May 12th for your team to be eligible to play in the tournament. Remember, no students can be added to your team after you submit the registration form, so make sure you have all your team's information when registering. MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH!
May is recognized as National Mental Health Awareness Month!!!!
Mental Health is defined as: our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness. During May, several organizations join the national movement to raise awareness about mental health. Each year we fight stigma, provide support, educate the public, and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families.
This year, Mental Health Awareness Month will amplify the message, "More Than Enough" campaign! According to National Today, observing Mental Health Awareness Month means taking care of yourself, taking care of your loved ones, and talking about mental health. The more you talk about it, the more normal the conversation becomes. This can be a challenge due to the stigma mental health carries, stigma often exists because of negative stereotypes or myths.
For example, some people might believe that treatment does not help. However, mental health conditions such as anxiety are very treatable, but only 36% of people go to get help. Others believe that anxiety just happens, or that it is very uncommon. This, again, is untrue. Anxiety disorder is the most common mental health disorder in the US, and it is caused by several factors such as brain activity to genetics, to life events. It is important to offer support and encourage your loved ones, and to seek treatment for yourself.
This month is a great opportunity for all of us to come together and remember the inherent value we each hold — no matter our diagnosis, appearance, socioeconomic status, background or ability. We want every person out there to know that if all you did was wake up today, that’s more than enough. No matter what, you are inherently worthy of more than enough life, love and healing. Showing up, just as you are, for yourself and the people around you is more than enough!!

As we prepare for next school year, we would like to get an idea of those students that will not be returning with us. If your scholar will be attending another school for the 2023-2024 school year, please complete the withdrawal form here and email it to Claporte@cmitsouth.org. All requests will be processed once final grades have been entered in SchoolMax. Withdrawal packets will be ready for pick for those that have completed their forms by June 19, 2023 on June 26, 2023. Any forms completed after June 19, 2023 will receive an email when their packet is ready for pickup.

Prince George’s Community College is hosting a FREE summer camp for students in elementary (4&5 grade, Middle school Girls and High school students). This camp is focused on Cybersecurity awareness, careers and skills. Please share with your students and encourage them to apply. Application is open until all spots are filled. 🚨INSTRUCTIONS ON COMPLETING STUDENT SERVICE LEARNING FORMS🚨
Greetings Parents and Scholars,
I have received many Student Service Learning forms that I am unable to accept due to the following reasons:
1-Missing Signatures and DatesI cannot accept any forms that are missing Parent Signatures, Student Signatures, Supervisor Signatures, and Dates.
2-Dates of Service
Dates of Service are to be itemized on “EACH” line. I cannot accept date ranges. Even if the activity was completed for the same organization, each date and organization name is required on each line. I have attached a completed Service Learning Form for your reference.
3-Hours of Service
The Hours of Service column is to notate the actual time of day that the activity was completed;
Example: 12:00pm- 2:00pm. The attached Service Learning Form reflects an example of this.
4-Total Hours
The Total Hours column should reflect the number of hours that were completed on “each” specific date that is itemized on the form on each line.
5-Signature of Supervisor
The Signature of Supervisor column should have a signature for each line that is completed.
I have received forms with incomplete reflective responses that I unable to submit. The attached form highlights every line and section that requires completion as well as an example of how the Service Learning Log should be filled out. PGCPS requires that the form is properly filled out in its entirety before it can be submitted and recorded into School Max. Failure to properly complete the form in its entirety will result in a delay in submissions.
ATHLETICS NEWS
Staff vs. Student Basketball Game and Staff vs. Student Volleyball Game
- The HS basketball game will be played on May 12th at 5:30pm.
- The MS basketball game will be played on June 6th at 5:30 pm.
- The volleyball game will be played at 3:30 pm on May 19th (possibly May 18th depending on the student tournament schedule).
Cheer Workouts Spring 2023
If you are interested in Cheer.... Workouts are open for grades 8th-11th on Mondays from 3:00- 4:30, beginning April 24th. Must have an Open Gym form on file; please see Mr. Smith for the form or the QR Code below. Be sure to come with: Proper athletic attire, a ride that will be on time, and a great attitude!
HS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TRYOUT INFORMATION
Girls high school volleyball begins in the summer. Tryouts take place at the start of August and practices begin right after tryouts. Anyone interested in playing must attend tryouts, and anyone who makes the team is expected to attend practice each day. Volleyball is a big commitment from players and parents/guardians because of the summer start, so please begin making plans now if you wish to tryout. Read below for further information.

Metro VBC is hosting summer camps throughout the summer for various ages and experience levels. If you are interested, please check out their website for more information and registration links. (April 1)
BRING YOUR REFILLABLE WATER BOTTLE TO SCHOOL
Students should bring a REFILLABLE WATER BOTTLE to use throughout the school day.
Students can no longer drink directly from the water fountain.
*Please note that all water fountains were converted in to water dispensers in 2021.*

Trinity Episcopal Mission in Upper Marlboro is hosting a new Parents' Night Out program beginning on March 31, and they are looking for high school student volunteers.
Student volunteers will help elementary school-age children with activities such as arts and crafts, music, and playtime. Students will volunteer from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

No-Cost Summer STEM Program for Middle School Students at USU
The USU Graduate School of Nursing is leading the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) contribution to a new DoD STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program through a no-cost summer STEM camp for middle school students.
This four-week program is planned to take place in Rice Hall at USU from Tuesday, June 20 through Friday, July 14, 2023. Middle school students who reside in the metropolitan area and entering grades 6, 7 or 8 are welcome to apply.
This program is part of "The Verizon Innovative Learning STEM Achievers" program. The goal is to empower students to discover new problem-solving skills and learn about career opportunities in technology fields. Students engage in a hands-on program that enriches learning through design thinking, 3D printing, robotics, augmented reality, virtual reality, social entrepreneurship, and mentorship.
Summary of Program Details:
WHO
• Students who reside in the metropolitan area and entering grades 6, 7, or 8
• A maximum of 150 students—no prior STEM experience is needed
• The program is inclusive. All are welcome to apply.
• The faculty is GSN Assistant Dean for Students Affairs, Dr. Jay Maiden, who will coordinate with participating STEM experts
WHAT
• A STEM opportunity to explore new problem-solving skills in an interactive fun environment
• Lunch will be provided
• No fees or expenses. Program is sponsored by a grant from Verizon
WHEN
• The program is a 4-week session, Tuesday, June 20-Friday, July 14, 2023
• The program is from 9am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday

FREE SUMMER PROGRAM FOR PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH GRADERS
The Anacostia Watershed Society is offering a FREE Summer Environmental Academy (SEA) camp for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who live in and near the Anacostia River watershed in PG County. Through this explorative, outdoor recreational and educational experience, students learn about their river and local environment, while developing skills in team building, critical thinking, and scientific investigation.
SEA camp will be offered for free over two weeks in the summer of 2023. Both sessions cover the same material, so we recommend coming to only one.
