School Newsletter - 1st Edition - 2nd February 2023
from the principal
Dear Families,
I am feeling very excited about the start of our school year! I am honoured to play a part in leading such a vibrant and dedicated community of learners, teachers, and families.
As we prepare for the new school year, I want to extend a warm welcome to all students, parents, and staff. Whether you are returning to our school or starting for the first time, I am confident that we will have a wonderful year together.
I am eager to get to know new families and students and build on existing relationships. I am always keen to learn about students’ passions and interests, and to find ways to support their growth and development. My goal is to create a positive and inclusive learning environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and challenged.
I am particularly impressed with the exceptional staff we have at Bourchier Street. They are dedicated, knowledgeable, and passionate about their work. They are ready to go above and beyond to help our school achieve its goals and provide the best possible education to our students. With their support and guidance, I am confident that we will achieve great things this year.
After a couple of years of restrictions, we are excited to welcome parents back into classrooms at the start of the day to read with students. This is a great opportunity for families to connect with their child's learning. Classroom teachers will send more guidance on how morning reading in classrooms will work and we ask that everyone takes the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all when in classrooms.
As we kick off the school year, there are a few important events to mark in your calendars. Year Five and Six students will be participating in Swim Safety lessons starting this week, where they will learn essential skills for being safe around water. It is imperative that our students learn to be safe in and around water, and I am grateful for this opportunity for them to develop these skills.
Our first assembly of the year will take place at 2:30pm on Friday, where we will have the opportunity to introduce our student leaders to the school community. It's always exciting to see the positive impact that student leadership can have on a school, and I can't wait to see what they will achieve this year.
We will also have a Welcome Evening for families next Wednesday, the 8th of February. Classrooms will be open for families to take a look from 4pm and a BBQ dinner will be available from 5pm. This evening provides a great opportunity for parents to meet our staff, meet other families and ask any questions they may have. We hope to see you there!
There are several camps coming up this term, and we will be sharing more information and updates with you soon. These experiences are an important part of our students' education and provide opportunities for growth, learning, and building relationships.
I believe that education is a partnership between the school and the home, and I look forward to working closely with families to ensure that our students have the best possible experience. I encourage you to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have.
As we embark on this new school year together, I am filled with excitement and a deep sense of purpose. I cannot wait to see what amazing things we will accomplish.
Wishing you all the best,
Gary Darma
