MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. KIM MANSELL, BUS DRIVER / SCS TRANSPORTATION
Mrs. Kim Mansell is in her 19th year as a bus driver for our District. “Miss Kim” - as she is affectionately know to her students - started as a playground monitor at Whitney and Drake Elementary Schools and also worked in the cafeteria at Drake, before joining the Transportation team. She is retiring in June of this year, ready to take on the next chapter of her life.
“This job with Strongsville City Schools provided me flexibility and allowed me to be there as my two kids were growing up. I take that same ‘family first’ attitude when I’m safely transporting students to and from school. It’s important for me to make connections with my students early on in the school year. I find that it helps build respect and leads to positive experiences during routes each day. I am able to see students at all different levels - from elementary to middle school to high school - but one of my favorite routes is the time I spend with half-day kindergarten students. I have the opportunity to positively impact young lives in my role in the District.”
“Our Transportation Department has so many different personalities, and we come from a variety of backgrounds. But when we are out on the road, everyone has each other’s back - and we support each other with the main goal of getting kids to and from school safely.”
Thank you Kim for your dedication to our District. We appreciate the impact you have made with the many students you have interacted with over the years and wish you nothing but the best in your retirement! #ModelMustang

SHS WINTER SPORTS SUCCESS
Our winter athletic teams at Strongsville High School continue to compete at a very high level. Here are some recent successes:
Girls Basketball - 19-2 Overall Record / The Lady Mustangs host conference rival Medina on Wednesday February 14th, for their season finale. It’s also Senior Night and the Greater Cleveland Conference title will be on the line - as both Medina and Strongsville are 9-1 in GCC play. The Lady Mustangs are the #10 seed in their Sectional/District bracket for the State Tournament. They will play the winner of the first round matchup between Garfield Hts. and Maple Hts. on Thursday, February 22 at 7pm in the SHS Main Gym.
Boys Basketball - 14-3 Overall Record / 6-3 Conference Record / Ranked 16th in the area and 25th in the state. The boys have a HUGE home game on Tuesday, February 13 at 7:00pm vs. Brunswick. Get there early, as the game at Brunswick earlier this year sold out. Limited tickets will be available at the door - plan to purchase tickets in advance HERE. After Tuesday, The Mustangs finish their regular season schedule with 3 games at home (2/17 at 3pm vs. Akron East, 2/20 at 7pm vs. Holy Name, and 2/23 at 7pm vs. Cleveland Hts.) - plenty of opportunities to come out and support this very gritty, hard-working boys basketball team.
Gymnastics - Greater Cleveland Conference Champions! The Lady Mustangs Gymnastics team brought home the GCC Championship - and did it in record setting fashion. Their combined routines earned the 3rd highest team score in school history! Their postseason tournament begins soon - they are definitely a team to watch as they compete for a state title.
Hockey - Have started competing in the Baron Cup - their postseason tournament. TONIGHT (Fri. 2/9) the team plays in the Semifinals (#5 Strongsville vs #1 CVCA) at 5pm at the Coyne Recreation Center (7600 Memphis Ave. / Brooklyn)
Swimming & Diving - Two SHS divers (Olivia Wingler & Maddy Eschmeyer) competed in the Berea-Midpark Diving Invitational on February 1st and completed their first 11 dive competition. This allows them to qualify for OHSAA postseason competition. As teams, the boys and girls will be competing in the Sectional Meet at Cleveland State University on Saturday, February 10th. Congratulations to the Boys Team who captured the GCC Championship with another undefeated season (13-0 Overall / 6-0 GCC)!
