Patriot Day (9/11 Remembrance)
Patriot Day, holiday observed in the United States on September 11 to commemorate the lives of those who died in the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Virginia and those who perished when the hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania. The holiday also recognizes those who died attempting to rescue people trapped by the attacks.
By a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress on Dec. 18, 2001, September 11 was designated as Patriot Day. The resolution calls for the president of the United States to issue a yearly proclamation requesting that all U.S. flags be flown at half-staff. Further, Americans are asked to honour the dead with a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 AM, Eastern Standard Time, the time that the first airplane struck the World Trade Center, and to respect the ceremonies of remembrance when they are conducted. Prior to passage of the resolution, several other names had been proposed for the day, such as the National Day of Remembrance and the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance. - https://www.britannica.com/topic/Patriot-Day

Morning routines in kindergarten play a pivotal role in fostering a positive and structured learning environment for young children. These routines provide a sense of predictability and stability, helping children transition from home to school. They offer opportunities for social interaction, enabling kids to greet their peers and teachers, contributing to their social development and sense of belonging. Furthermore, morning routines often include engaging activities that stimulate cognitive and motor skills, setting a productive tone for the day ahead. Additionally, morning routines at Chestnut Street lay the foundation for academic success by introducing early literacy and numeracy activities, allowing children to begin their learning journey with enthusiasm and a sense of accomplishment, which can positively impact their learning.

In the brief video above, you will see a "turn and talk." This is an activity where the teacher, in this instance, Ms. Lynch, prompts students to discuss a specific topic or question with a partner. Typically, the teacher sets the stage by providing clear instructions and a thought-provoking question related to the lesson. Students then turn to their designated partner, often sitting nearby, and take turns sharing their thoughts, ideas, or answers. This practice encourages active participation, promotes communication skills, and allows students to process information collaboratively. It fosters peer interaction, builds confidence, and can be a valuable tool for enhancing comprehension and critical thinking as students share their perspectives and listen to the viewpoints of their classmates.
Secondary School
Student agency is prominently displayed at the secondary school, where students actively shape their educational journey. Empowered by choices and responsibilities, students are not mere recipients of knowledge but active participants in their learning process. Whether participating in a four-corner activity, conducting experiments around the scientific method, or having a voice in potential new courses, students demonstrate ownership over their education and school community. This culture of student agency not only fosters critical thinking and leadership skills but instills a lifelong quest for learning, preparing them for success in both their academic pursuits and beyond.
