FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Father Doyle Families,
We're excited to see many of you at our Annual Spooktacular Trunk or Treat event tomorrow evening! The evening will feature over two dozen decorated trunks, as well as an opportunity to vote for the winner of our annual Middle School Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Don your costumes and come on down beginning at 6:30pm tomorrow evening! Just a reminder that this is not a peanut or tree nut free event.
As Halloween approaches, so to does the end of the month of October. As such, we are wrapping up our study of the virtue of reverence, showing our deepest respect for the things of God, and we look forward to recognizing our VIP (Virtues in Practice) Award Winners for this month at prayer service on Monday morning.
With the start of November on Tuesday, we will also begin the study of a new virtue of the month - stewardship: returning to God the first fruits of your time, talent, and treasure. The saints for the month for November, as well as optional home projects for families regarding the virtue, can be found in the Virtue Corner section below.
Furthermore, November 1st is All Saints Day, a holy day of obligation in the Catholic church. The school community will come together for a special all school Mass at 1:00pm, during which our 5th grade students will be presenting their Saint biography projects which they have been working so hard on over the past few weeks. Please note, parents are invited to join us for Mass.
Please be sure to continue reading below for more important announcements and information!
FJVD Annual Veterans Day Prayer Service
You are cordially invited to the annual Veterans Day Prayer Service at Father Doyle School. The service will begin at 6:30pm on Tuesday evening, November 8th and will include the singing of our National Anthem, the playing of Taps, and a brief speaking program. For additional details, please see the flyer here. Thank you for joining us to celebrate and honor all of the veterans connected to our school community.
Introducing Middle School Parents' Night - RSVP Today!
Middle school is often a challenging time for students as they transition away from elementary school and towards high school. To that end, it is even more essential that parents of middle school students have the appropriate supports and information to be the best advocates for their students.
With this in mind, Mrs. Coutu and Mr. Peloquin will be hosting a Middle School Parents' Night on Wednesday, November 9th beginning at 6:30pm. There will be both an in-person and Zoom attendance option, and we are encouraging all middle school parents to attend.
Topics for the night will include:
- Accessing and utilizing FACTS to monitor student progress
- Understanding and supporting student use of the agenda
- Overview of helpful study skills and strategies
- Effective use of study hall and teacher office hours
- Helpful tips around teen use of electronics
Please RSVP at the link here no later than Monday, November 7th. Again, both Zoom and in-person options are available!
Calling all Students and Families! Annual FJVD Christmas Concert - December 15th
We are excited to once again be preparing for our annual FJVD Christmas Concert. For those who are new to our school community, or perhaps were unable to participate last year, the Christmas Concert is traditionally held in early December and features musical performances from students across all grade levels.
This year's Christmas Concert is scheduled for Thursday, December 15th beginning at 6:30pm in the church. Each grade will be performing at least one musical number during the concert, which they are working hard on preparing in their music classes. The evening will also feature scripture readings, a living nativity, and time for prayer in preparation for the coming of Christmas.
In order to help plan and prepare for the event, we are asking families to RSVP at the link here no later than Wednesday, November 9th.
Thank you so much, and we look forward to seeing you at this wonderful event amidst the Advent season!
Preparing for the Annual Gentleman's Choice Event!
Parents and members of our PTO are hard at work planning for our annual Gentleman's Choice Event coming up in March. It would be a great help if you would take a few moments to fill out this interest survey to help guide our planning: https://forms.gle/6sAhfGZbo2JRQuhR9. Thank you!
Updated COVID-19 Policies
After consultation with Fr. Woolley, Nurse Cioe, and administrators and health professionals in regional Catholic schools, Father John V. Doyle School has amended its COVID-19 policies to better align with current state and national guidance. Please note the following changes on page seven of our policies:
Masking
The school generally utilizes a mask optional policy. Under this policy, the decision to wear a mask in school is at the discretion of each individual student and/or family. Please note that the responsibility for enforcing masking decisions lies with the individuals and families. Teachers and school staff are not responsible for enforcing the unique masking preferences of each individual student/family.
Masks will be required by the school in the following circumstance:
- A student has tested positive and is returning to school after a 5-day isolation period. A mask is required for that individual for five additional days (days six through ten of the isolation period).
Masks are recommended but not required in the following circumstances:
- Students identified as close contacts of a positive case, regardless of symptoms or vaccination status, are recommended to wear a mask for 5 -10 days after last contact with a positive case.
- The school identifies an outbreak, defined by the Department of Health as three or more related cases within a specific grade level/group. In this case, masks will be strongly recommended for all close contacts for a minimum of five days from the last contact with a positive case.
As stated above, these changes best align with current guidance from the Rhode Island Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control which currently uses the language of recommendation rather than requirement for most masking scenarios. In addition, this change is in line with a general shift from a pandemic to an endemic response in which health and government organizations rely upon personal responsibility to ensure the health and well-being of the community. Lastly, these changes are aligned to policies and procedures of regional Catholic and public schools.
We continue to monitor shifts in the virus and local and national responses to COVID-19, and these policies are subject to change.
Don't forget to keep scrolling below for photos and more information! Have a great weekend! God bless, and Go Saints!
Sincerely,
Mr. Peloquin
