Hello Schluter Families!

It has been such a great Red Ribbon Week, promoting a healthy lifestyle with our students. It was also so fun to have our students join in on the dress-up days. Check out our social media to see some of the fun!

Fall has officially arrived! Don’t forget to label those jackets, sweaters, and coats with first and last names to help us get those items back to kiddos.

Also, with the weather changing and the time change nearing, it is darker in the morning during arrival. Please ensure that students are not dropped off prior to 7:20am. It is a safety concern for students to be waiting in the dark alone without supervision. In addition, we have recently had increased incidences of honking, yelling with profanity, and our arrival procedures not being followed. Please know these procedures are in place to keep students safe, and keep our staff safe as they work to safely get our students into the building in the morning. We will continue monitoring our practices to improve, but I do ask that we all be kind to one another. Our arrival and dismissal procedures can be found below. Thank you for your support in keeping our students and staff safe.

As a reminder, it is a four-day weekend for students! Hopefully the weather clears soon, and we get to enjoy the sunshine again during the long weekend. We will see everyone back on Wednesday, November 2nd.

To celebrate Veteran’s Day, our students will be putting together a video tribute to honor our Veterans and will be making a Veteran Honor wall. Here are a few ways Veterans and their families can participate:

1. Veterans can send in a short video (20-30 seconds) introducing themselves and sharing a little about their experience or what Veteran’s Day means to them. Feel free to include your name, rank, branch of service and any other bit of information you would like to include. Videos be should be emailed to lmorris01@nisdtx.org by October 29th.
2. Veterans and/or their families can send in a photo to be displayed on the Veteran Honor wall. Please use the attached Veteran Photo Form. Print the form, attach a copy of your Veteran photo to the form, fill out the information, have your student decorate the rest of the form and bring it back by November 4th or sooner.

What future facilities does Northwest ISD need to keep up with extreme student enrollment increases? Our Long-Range Planning Committee, composed of community members and school staff, is now meeting to decide an upcoming recommendation for new schools and facilities to meet this incredible growth rate our community has never seen before.

At their last meeting, the committee discussed the growth of extracurricular programs. Some potential extracurricular facilities being discussed include options for our growing fine arts programs, a second agricultural center to support a future fourth comprehensive high school and potentially building home stadiums at every high school. What should Northwest ISD’s next five elementary schools be named? Let us know by submitting your nomination! The district is currently accepting nominations, including for the next school, which is slated to open in 2024 in the Wildflower Ranch community.

Submissions must meet the district’s criteria, and the proposed namesake for any nomination must no longer be living for consideration. Submit your nomination using this online form.

Need afterschool care for your student? Check out Alphabest! Students would stay at Schluter under the supervision of Alphabest.

Northwest ISD uses MySchoolBucks for meal accounts, and families can actively monitor their students’ available money or add funds to their accounts by visiting www.myschoolbucks.com.

For students who meet federal requirements, school meals may be provided free or at a reduced cost. To receive this benefit, a student's parent or guardian must fill out the free or reduced-cost meal application and be granted admission into the program. While students in the program receive the same benefits briefly at the start of the following school year, the application must be completed annually to continue receiving the program's benefits. For any student who received benefits from the free or reduced-priced meal program in 2021-2022 but has not yet applied and been granted its benefits for the current school year, regular costs are now in effect.

In order for benefits to continue, an application must be completed and returned and free or reduced-price meals will continue to be provided, if the student qualifies. The application can be completed at this link. Paper applications are also available at all Northwest ISD campuses. Registration is ongoing for Northwest ISD’s annual Reindeer Romp! The event consists of a 1-mile fun run and 5K run, with all proceeds benefiting school P.E. departments.

The event begins with the 1-mile run at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, December 10, followed 30 minutes later by the 5K race. Both races take place at Alliance Airport. Register now and select our school to help our P.E. program! Information and registration is available at www.nisdreindeerromp.com.

If you missed Northwest ISD’s Facebook Live on Wednesday, don’t worry, the broadcast can be streamed on demand! The broadcast covered progress of the district’s Long-Range Planning Committee, new schools under construction and a preview of the attendance boundary discussion for the 2023-2024 school year.

Northwest ISD will host another Facebook Live in December after the attendance boundary proposal has been presented to the school board. When the December broadcast invitation is sent, make plans to attend live to submit your questions.

Northwest ISD paraprofessionals are receiving an increase in their starting pay following unanimous approval by the school board! Beginning immediately, Beginning with this week’s paycheck, the minimum wage for an hourly Northwest ISD paraprofessional staff member will increase from $12.50 to $15 per hour. Additionally, the minimum wage for bus monitors will increase to $14 per hour.
