Summer school information will be distributed to eligible students in the upcoming weeks via their mytusd email and to the family email listed in Aeries.

The CHOC Mental Health Webinar Archive has pre-recorded webinars for parents on topics including: ADHD, anxiety & depression, substance use, Autism Spectrum Disorder, regulating sleep patterns, and more. CHOC also offers videos for children on a variety of Coping Strategies.

NACAC will be holding an in-person National College Fair on Sunday, April 24, from 1:30-3:30 pm at the Anaheim Convention Center for any students or families who may be interested in attending.

Below is a list of ROP after bell classes organized by industry, location offered, and age requirement. Fall 2022 registration is not available yet, but students may sign up to be on the interest list here.

IVC Application Workshops: Seniors (All at BHS Library in Person)

New students to IVC are required to complete all three workshops. Workshops are led by IVC counselors and matriculation specialists.

• Application Workshop: Wednesday, April 6 from 2:30-3:30 at BHS Library
• Orientation: Wednesday, April 20 from 2:30-3:30 at BHS Library
• Advisement: Tuesday, April 26 from 2:30-4:30 at BHS Library

The IVC Freshman Advantage deadline is May 10, which gives students a priority registration date of May 11 or May 12.

College Admissions Decisions... Are coming!

• Make sure you are checking your portals and emails. Once you hear from your schools, update Naviance and let your counselor know you got in! Have you been keeping up with Scholarship Opportunities? Check the Scholarships webpage for local opportunities and tips on how to find more scholarships and how to shine on applications.

Financial Aid:

• FAFSA /CADAA Application Deadline was March 2, 2022, but has been extended to April 1, 2022! Seniors who have not completed their FAFSA or DREAM ACT application can still submit it!
• Reminder for seniors who plan on going to IVC, SCC, or any community college! You must complete the FAFSA application to be eligible for the promise program that waives tuition fees for qualified first-year community college students for two consecutive school years. This means you can attend school tuition-free. Cal Grant and California Dream Act financial aid applications (including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act Application (CADAA)) from California students for 2022-23 completed by April 1, 2022, will be considered on time for priority consideration.

• Applied for Financial Aid, Now What? Once your Financial Aid application has been processed, the colleges you are admitted to will send you a “Financial Aid Package” or “Financial Aid Award Letter.” This will include government grants that have been awarded to you like Cal Grant and Pell Grant, as well as school-based scholarships, loans, and work-study offers. Before making a final decision, review your award packages with your parents. If you need additional support, see your counselor.

We know that this time of year can bring a flurry of emotions, tasks, and deadlines. As we enter into the last quarter of high school, it’s more important than ever to keep your head up and keep moving forward. Make every day of every week count, continue to check your emails, and listen up for important announcements. Don’t be shy to reach out to your counselor for any questions you may have as you navigate financial aid, housing, etc.

UC Admissions Information

• Events for Admitted Freshmen: Admitted students will have a range of options to engage with campuses this spring. Campuses are planning multiple virtual events beginning in late March and continuing throughout April. Events may include (but are not limited to) presentations on financial aid and scholarships, choosing a major, student organizations, support resources, and housing. The date ranges are provided below along with the link for more information on the events.

• UC Admissions Next Steps: Students can accept an admission offer by agreeing to the provisions/conditions outlined in the offer and submitting their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) with the SIR deposit to reserve their space at a campus. The SIR deposit is $250. Some important things to keep in mind about accepting a UC admission offer:

1. Students can accept only one admission offer from one UC campus.
2. The SIR deposit is applied to the student's first enrollment term tuition.
3. Students that qualified for the UC application fee waiver will have the SIR deposit deferred until financial aid is disbursed.
4. The SIR deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable.
5. A Statement of Legal Residence (SLR) for tuition determination purposes may be required.

Campuses offer a range of virtual tours for students and families to explore. Options may include a personalized experience, housing tours, guided student tours, and/or student panels. Campuses may increase offerings or add options as needed.

Scholarship Night Info Reminder:

Attention class of 2022 seniors! Have you been notified that you are receiving a scholarship of $500 or more? If yes, Beckman High School wants to recognize you as part of our Scholarship Recognition Video. The scholarship can be from a community organization/business or the college that you will be attending in the Fall of 2022. To be recognized please complete this Google Form on/before May 1, 2022. If you have multiple scholarships, please complete this form separately for each one. Thank you!

It is time for the BCAP! What is the BCAP?

• Stands for: Beckman Career/College Admissions Process

• Lesson and Project in English Classes during the Spring semester of your junior year.

• Includes instructions on the application processes for each type of post-secondary path, how to request letters of recommendation, questionnaires, resume, & much more.

BCAP Lesson: All 11th Grade students will participate in a lesson facilitated by the counseling team during their English class. This lesson will provide students an overview of the “big picture” of the BCAP process as well as researching and preparing for the post-secondary option of their choice.

BCAP Google Classroom: During this lesson all juniors will gain access to their counselor’s BCAP Google Classroom. It is recommended that you get familiar with all of the resources available in the BCAP Google Classroom. It has detailed checklists of each type of college application, deadlines, college and major exploration tools, military information, trade school/apprenticeship links, financial aid info, how to request teacher letters of rec (if needed) and so much more. This is also where students will submit their four BCAP documents to their counselor in the fall if they need a counselor Letter of Recommendation.

Ten weeks to go before summer is upon us. Your summer is a perfect opportunity to expand your knowledge about possible careers, invest your time in volunteering or perhaps take a class at a local community college. All are great paths to pursue in the summer.

Remember these are options and are not mandatory. Your first priority is your mental health. Consider these options if you are ready to embark on these voyages.

• In February, freshman counselor, Erin Charles, presented a lesson in the 9th grade Study Skills class to review A-G and grad requirements and to help guide 10th grade course selection. See data from the lesson below.
