From The Cockpit
Dear Mitchell Community,
It has been a great start to the 2022-23 school year. Having the students back in the school is energizing. The staff and I have worked hard to prepare for this school year by engaging in professional development that supports quality instruction and promotes a safe and structured learning environment. Many MHS families joined us for the Open House on August 25th, which provided space for parents/guardians to establish relationships with staff and walk through their student's class schedule. MHS students have had two weeks to familiarize themselves with their new schedules and set a daily routine that best supports their academic success. Students have also engaged in class meetings where they have been introduced to staff and been given a presentation about essential information that sets them up for success. The presentation included information specific to school safety, student code of conduct expectations, positive behavioral interventions, and support (PBIS), which is directly influenced by the Mitchell ACCEPT Core Values, academic supports, and more. It is my hope that all MHS stakeholders feel a sense of trust and that quality relationships are formed through effective communication and transparency. Please support our efforts by visiting our website, engaging in offered activities and events, and engaging in the learning process alongside of our students. Together, we all can make Mitchell a school of high expectations, accountability, integrity, and achievement. Thank you and I look forward to our ongoing partnership!

Core Value of the Month: Achievement
Student Life
Extracurricular activities provide a channel for reinforcing the lessons learned in the classroom, offering students the opportunity to apply academic skills in a real-world context, and are thus considered part of a well-rounded education. Recent research suggests that participation in extracurricular activities may increase students' sense of engagement or attachment to their school, and thereby decrease the likelihood of school failure and dropping out.

Homecoming 2022- "Casino" Night
On September 23rd Student Council arrived at school around 9:00am working hard till 4:00pm to get the dance floor ready for the students to dance their night away. When the dance started at 6:00pm, everyone looked sharp as they dressed up to look their best for the dance. Student Council also provided Raising Canes, and other food options for students to enjoy. All this led up to a wonderful night of fun, laughter, dancing, and a night of memories in which many wouldn't forget. This Homecoming was one of the most successful we have had in years, and we are excited to work on what's next!

Monthly Awareness/Observations: Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

Meet Your New Marauder
A School Resource Officer (SRO) is a carefully selected, specifically trained, and properly equipped law enforcement officer with sworn authority, trained in school-based law enforcement and crisis response and assigned by an employing law enforcement agency to work collaboratively with one or more schools using community-oriented policing concepts.
