Madisyn's Buddy Bench
Madisyn was a first grade student at our school who tragically passed away in December of 2022. We will always remember Madisyn’s kindness at our building. Many families and staff members donated to be able to purchase this special bench in her honor. We were able to dedicate our Buddy Bench to Madisyn on Wednesday, November 15th. Her classmates and teachers from kindergarten and first grade gathered to watch us unveil her custom bench made in her very favorite color. It is in the perfect spot under a beautiful tree overlooking our K-1 playground. A Buddy Bench is a spot where students can sit to signal that they need a friend. Other students can then see them on the bench and invite them to play or just sit to keep them company. Madisyn was a friend to all of her classmates and now she can be a buddy to any student who uses her bench. After we unveiled Madi’s bench, her classmates did what she would want them to do- play and have fun together. You can see this special memorial anytime you use the playground after school or while you drive by to drop off and pick up your students. When you see it, think of Madisyn, and always remember to be kind.
Picture Retakes Rescheduled
School pictures are scheduled to ship to the building next week. We will get them home with students as soon as they get in. In order to give families a chance to determine if retakes are needed, we are moving our picture retake day to Wednesday, December 6th. Thank you!
Outdoor Recess
In Ohio, we know that the weather can change at a moment's notice! Please be sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the changing temperature. We go outside for recess any time that the wind chill is 20 degrees or above. Winter coats, hats, gloves, and boots are recommended. Please reach out to jacque.sparent@weschools.org if you need any help getting these items for your child.

School Messenger Email Blasts
School Messenger is the automated system used by the Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools to make attendance calls and send district wide messages, such as school closings due to inclement weather, and event reminders. You can manage your account through the parent portal in PowerSchool. It’s simple! You can also identify more than one primary email address to receive notifications. Instructions are being provided for your convenience. The building secretaries can also help with editing your contact information and with questions regarding non-custodial adults, such as significant others, who need to receive messaging.
Winter Calamity Day Closing Decisions
If you believe your child is experiencing challenges in terms of their mental well-being, it is important to reach out to your principal. To meet your child’s needs, it’s essential to collaborate with the principal and school personnel to explore resources and services available at school. In addition to Crossroads Counselors, the District also has family liaisons and guidance counselors who can provide needed interventions and support.
