The PPTA is holding paid union meetings with its members at the end of November.

The meeting for Rosehill College members will be on Wednesday 30 November.

Timetabled classes will finish at 12:20pm on that day. Murphy's buses have been organised to collect students at 12:20 pm. The school will remain open with teachers who are not PPTA members supervising students who need to remain at school and AT buses will run at their normal time of 3.20pm.

I appreciate that this is inconvenient for parent, caregivers and students alike, but please be assured that student safety is our main concern. Thank you for your understanding.

The Music Department's End-of-Year Concert went off with a bang! With outstanding performances from the Concert Band, Stage Band, Choir, PI Pitch Choir, and Soloists. Congratulations to all that took part in this wonderful evening.

Congratulations to Aisha Aziz, Rosehill College's first recipient of a First Foundation Scholarship!

Through the First Foundation, students are sponsored by an organisation called a ‘scholarship partner’, which provides financial support over 3 years towards university costs. We would like to extend our thanks to Kirk Sargent and the team at First Foundation.

Registrations for Te Kura Summer School will be opening from 7 November 2022.

Summer School courses are delivered online from December to February, so with access to a computer and the internet, ākonga can learn anywhere and anytime. Te Kura (Correspondance School) accepts short-term registrations over the summer break.

Te Kura Summer School is a learning programme available for eligible ākonga (students) who require up to 12 NCEA credits to progress to further study, training, or employment.

1. Register on the NZQA site a Learner Login to access standards, past papers, and sample answers.

2. Know from the Student Portal or Tutor Group Teacher what credits have been gained and what are still to obtain.

3. Complete all internals by the end of this Term.

4. Aim for 14 credits per subject including the externals.

5. Take advantage of subject tutorials and further opportunities to gain credits.

6. Know what is in the exam.

7. Have a study timetable - 3 x 30 minute sessions per day.

8. Study little chunks repeated often, in quiet.

9. Phones are a distraction - parents should have them during study time.

It's now Term 4 which means summer holidays are just around the corner! Children and teens who don’t read much over the long summer holidays can lose gains they've made in their reading levels and fluency over the year. This is true for all children, but especially for children who are already struggling readers. Children who keep reading over the summer holidays can avoid the 'summer slide' and may even make reading gains for the start of the next school year.

We are pleased to say that we are offering our Summer Reading programme again this year. Students can borrow up to 10 books from the library for the summer holidays. They will also have full access to our huge selection of eBooks and Audiobooks online.

If you or your child are interested, please collect a permission slip from the library. It is important to note that summer reading is about reading for pleasure and not studying. Your child may choose books that are easy to read or that they have read before, please encourage them regardless of their book choice.

Vector Ongas have a couple of vacancies at their Bottle Swap Plant in Papakura (37 Hunua Road).

The roles are operating varies pieces of equipment, production line type of work. Full training is provided, so no experience is needed, just a commitment to turn up (every day) and get stuck in.

The hours are Monday to Friday 7.30am – 4pm (sometimes till 5pm and maybe some Saturdays during busy times).

This is a great opportunity for some school leavers to get their foot in the door or to earn some money over the Christmas break.

They pay the Living wage (currently $23.65 per hour) and lunch is provided everyday Monday-Friday.

They are keen to hear from anyone who is looking for ‘holiday work’ from now until the end of January or February, there are always opportunities to move to permanent for the right workers.

Minimum age to work on site is 17 years.

Well done to our Junior Volleyball teams who competed at the College Sport Auckland Junior Volleyball Championships this week.

There is a second open trial for anyone who will be in Years 11, 12 or 13 in 2023 and are interested in trialing for volleyball next week. This is on Tuesday 22 November 4.30-6.30pm. You do not need to sign up before the trial, just turn up ready to give it your best.

Touch

Boys Touch had a 5-4 win against Pukekohe High Red.

Girls Touch had a 4-1 win against Pukekohe High Silver and a good win 4-1 over Tangaroa College.

Volleyball

Auckland Volleyball Championships took place over three days this week, with our Girls and Boys A teams both taking part.

Day 1 saw the Boys lose to Rangitoto 2-0 and win against Mangere College 2-0. The Girls played Albany Junior High School, winning 2-1, and Carmel College, losing 2-1.

Day 2 saw the Boys play Avondale College and lose 2-0, and Otahuhu College, losing 2-1, while the Girls played Epsom Girls Grammar School, losing 2-1, and Westlake Girls High School, also losing 2-1. Day 2 also saw the teams move into the play-offs section. The Boys played Southern Cross Campus, losing 2-0, while the Girls played Sancta Maria College, winning 2-0.

The teams are still competing for final placings today.

Volleyball Trials

There will be trials for any Year 10, 11 or 12 students who wish to play volleyball for the school next year on Tuesday 22 November, 4.30-6.30pm in the Sports Centre.

Please come in gate 4.

Running Club

Monday session meets in the carpark at Gate 1 if you are interested.

There are two sessions a week which anyone is welcome to attend. You can attend one or both sessions each week.

Monday morning (7.15am – 8.15am) is a 30-45 min aerobic run. We have a few courses planned out around the streets of Papakura/Karaka. We will run as a group (or 2) so it will be safe and social.

Wednesday afternoon (3.45pm – 4.45pm) will be a more structured session. We’ll do some drills, play some games and work on developing some fitness, speed and technique.

Uniform

Only the sports hoodie ordered through the Sports Office is counted as a school uniform. These hoodies are designed to NOT have a name on the back, if a name is added after collection from the Sports Office they become a non-uniform item. All other hoodies & jackets, regardless of whether or not they have the school crest, are not school uniform and will be confiscated. Please do not wear these at school, they are for training and game days only.
