Army Trail Update

At Army Trail, we have high expectations, and one of those expectations is students attending school regularly. Attendance is mandatory, and parents have a responsibility to ensure their child attends school daily.

Remote Learners will be considered PRESENT if they are logged into their Classroom/Specials teachers Zoom meeting at the scheduled time and actively participating in the class.

Remote Learners that do not log in, partially attend their Zoom meeting, or do not participate or engage in the lesson will be marked ABSENT and, in some cases, TRUANT.

In severe cases of absenteeism, a home visit may occur by Fullerton staff in addition to the Student Resource Officer from the Addison Police Department. In extreme truancy cases, students will be reported to the DuPage County Truancy Program for poor attendance.

We have started an attendance recognition system at Army Trail to recognize each student and their family's hard work. Last week certificates were mailed home to recognize attendance during the first trimester, September 1 through November 13. Students that have met the criteria will be recognized in one of the following three categories.

• Certificate of Attendance - Student achieving between 90 and 94% attendance
• Excellence in Attendance - Students achieving between 95 and 99% attendance
• Perfect Attendance - Student achieving 100% attendance

Students that achieved Perfect attendance during the First Trimester received a small blue coin in their package. That coin can be turned into the Army Trail Office any time between 8:00 and 4:00 Monday-Friday in exchange for a new book!

Hey District 4 - are you looking for a way to support Science Night 2021, but aren't able to volunteer to help with the event? Purchase your very own Science Night t-shirt to show your support! T-shirts can be ordered using the link to the ACPTA webstore MemberHub until February 13, and shirts can be picked up the first week in March at the District 4 school of your choice. Proceeds from t-shirt sales will help pay for Science Night materials, and anything raised over the amount needed for Science Night will help fund ACPTA scholarships for Addison Trail graduates. Addison School District 4 recently launched a Virtual Calming Room website that contains a lot of great information, activities, and resources. This Virtual Calming Room is a place for students, families, and staff to find tools and strategies for managing emotions and feelings and building resilience during this pandemic. The site is available in both English and Spanish. Check it out below!

Each K-5th grade class at Army Trail will receive a 30-minute presentation between the week of February 8th-12th or February 16th-19th.

The following topics will be covered:

• Basic Body safety/ awareness
• Setting personal boundaries
• Seeking help from friends and adults we trust

If you do not wish your children to participate in the Erin’s Law curriculum or have any questions, please contact Jamie Smolinski, School Social Worker, at 630-458-2461 or jsmolinski@asd4.org by Friday, February 5th, 2020. It is important to note; if we do not hear from you, we will assume your child has permission to participate in this curriculum.

Army Trail students are scheduled to take the 5 Essentials Survey between February 8 and February 26. Please be aware that under the Protection of Pupil Rights Act. 20 U.S.C. Section 1232(c) (1) (A), you have the right to review a copy of the questions asked of your student(s). Survey questions can be found on the Illinois 5Essentials Support Center.

If you do not want your son or daughter to participate, please the Army Trail School Office.

Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand your child’s school conditions and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey for students and teachers will be conducted from February 3, 2021, through April 2, 2021. The Parent Survey Supplement will be conducted during that same timeframe. To take the survey, please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin.

Student attendance continues to be taken on a daily basis, whether your child is attending class in-person or remotely. Therefore, if your family intends on taking a vacation, or you must require your child to stay with a family member outside of the state or country; please be sure to notify us by calling the main office or letting your child’s classroom teacher know. This information is important for us to know so that we can plan accordingly, as we are not able to provide synchronous/asynchronous instruction or related services outside of the state. Our staff is only licensed to provide instruction or services within Illinois. If you have any questions please call our main office at 630-458-2502

WHEN WILL FOOD BE DISTRIBUTED?

• Food will be provided from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each Wednesday
• Seven days worth of meals will be distributed (five breakfasts and five lunches)
• Menus will be posted on the district website each month
