Monthly Newsletter - - January 2024
Mission Statement
Principal's Message
Welcome 2024 and Welcome back to school!
January marks a new beginning for everyone. As we begin a new year, it is a time to reflect on our progress toward goals from 2023, set new goals, and focus on success.
Academic excellence has always been a focus for McKibben; however, if students are not present at school, they are not exposed to classroom instruction to strengthen their academics. There are several ways that students can earn rewards for being at school every day on time. Club NEAT, Contests, Improved and Perfect Attendance awards, and classroom rewards. Family support is as vital with attendance as it is for academics, so please encourage your child to attend school every day that they are not ill.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming this month! Watch for information from your child's teacher regarding setting up appointments for a conference. If you do not hear from the teacher and would like a conference, please reach out to them!
Happy New Year!!

Principal
Booster Club
We will be starting up a Booster Club in place of PTA. Please plan on attending if you are interested in being involved or just want some information about what happens next! All are welcome!
Parking Lots
- Please be courteous and considerate to everyone- Staff, Families, and Students
- Follow traffic laws- avoid parking in the red zones or blocking driveways.
- Please drive slowly in the drive way and make sure to go with the flow of traffic.
- Students should be ready to exit the door from the passenger side.
- Make sure students have all items ready by the time you get to the top of the drop-off zone.
- Parents should remain in the cars. If your child is having trouble exiting quickly please use the walking gate.
- Be cautious of pedestrians and stay in the line.
- Use the closest pedestrian entrance if you are walking.
- Always pull forward as much as possible so we can get as many cars in the drop off zone.
- Consideration goes a long way-Avoid using profanity and arguments while on campus.
Please remain in your car when you are in the drop off lanes!

Attendance Challenge!
BE AT SCHOOL EVERY DAY ON TIME!
Attendance Counts!
School Attendance Policy
Regular attendance is critical to your child’s educational program. Please follow the guidelines below:
Please send a note or call the school at (562)944-9878 when your child is out ill.
An absence can only be EXCUSED by providing the following documentation: doctor/dentist appointment, funeral, or court hearing.
It is very important that vacations and one day trips are planned only when school is not in session.
Students who are unexcused from school for more than 5 days, will be removed from the school register and must re-enroll upon return. Available space is not guaranteed.
Adults, including parents/guardians, on the emergency contact list are required to show identification before students will be released.
We WILL NOT release children by telephone request. In addition, we will not release a child to anyone who is not specifically listed on the child’s emergency contact list.
It is the parent’s responsibility to maintain the most current contact information on the AERIES parent portal.
Tardies and early releases of more than 30 minutes will count as an absence.
PBIS- School Wide Behavior Expectations
Please partner with our school to help students remember to follow our behavior expectations:
Monthly Character Trait: RESPECT
What is Respect?
Respect is the willingness and ability to act professionally and thoughtfully with ourselves and others. Leaders can deal respectfully with opposition and provide space for both dignity and differences to coexist.
Why focus on Respect?
- Respect contributes to a positive culture. People feel safe, supported, and engaged in the context of thoughtful social, emotional, civic, and intellectual interactions.
- Respect decreases conflict. Respect helps us, and others, to be able to express ourselves without fear of being judged, humiliated, or discriminated against.
- Respect encourages empathy. Respect helps us to understand each other and put ourselves in someone else shoes.
Respect in Action:
- Teach students words have power. How we talk to others, and ourselves, can motivate or discourage, connect or destroy, hurt or heal. We should choose our words with care.
- Create opportunities for group decision-making. Open dialogue engages students in a process where compromise is crucial to making decisions.
- Vary protocols for classroom sharing. Frequently use open-ended questions, partner sharing, and small group activities to connect and promote understanding between students.
