Principal's Newsletter
We had another productive and fun week at the complex. It's hard to believe that January will be coming to an end on Monday. With Valentine's Day coming up in a couple of weeks, please see the letter below that got sent to families this week. We continue to try to make school as normal as possible for students as we deal with the ongoing pandemic.
Obviously, the forecast for the weekend brings us back to the same snowy way we rang in this new year! Please stay safe, have fun, and check the district's website for updates as the situation unfolds. Hopefully we will see everyone back on Monday!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
With Valentine’s Day approaching next month, we are beginning to get questions about what will be allowed to be sent in. Not much has changed with our situation since the holidays, but we do understand parents’ desire to send in food items and make things as normal as possible for the students while celebrating at school.
Unfortunately, due to the recent spike in Covid numbers and our continuing need for social distancing in our classrooms, many of them with over 20 students, we still cannot safely invite our parents into the classrooms for any kind of party. Like we said before, it also does not seem fair to invite just a few parents in when so many people are anxious to attend. However, in an effort to continue to work toward normalcy, we once again worked with our School Nurses to compile a list of approved Valentine’s Day candy. The reason for this particular list is because all of these items are safe for our many students with allergies. It is limited because we need this to be a manageable process for our teachers.
We do not want to have candy going through our nurses for screening, as they are busier than ever as they continue to handle Covid management. The idea is that teachers will have this same list and when they see that an item on this list is sent in, they will automatically know it is safe for all of their students. Any food items not on this list will be returned home with your student. Students will be having their classroom Valentine’s exchanges on Monday, February 14th. Please feel free to send in cards and/or candy prior to, or on, this date. You are also welcome to send in “goody bags” for the class that include nonfood items or the same candy from the list below. We truly appreciate your continued patience, and for working with us, as we continue to keep our students safe at school, while still trying to make it fun and memorable. Should you have any questions or concerns, like always, do not hesitate to reach out.

Congratulations to Our Top Readers!
It's past time that we celebrate our hardest working readers from December. The 2nd grade class with the most minutes read was Mrs. Zompa's class. The 3rd grade class that read the most in school was Mrs. Swigert & Mrs. Alverson's class. Both classes have won a winter reading party!
Our top reader in 2nd grade was Chloe Nguyen in Mrs. Zompa's class. She read 1,590 minutes in December- impressive! Our 3rd grade top reader in December was Matthew Kim who is in Mrs. Cochrane's class. He read an OUTSTANDING 2,920 minutes. Please congratulate these amazing readers!
