Dear NSD Families and Staff,
Welcome to NSD eNews, the school district's newsletter for families and staff, published following each Nashua Board of Education meeting. We want to continue to keep you up-to-date with Board business, school district news, and student and staff recognition.
Part of Transition Plan: As I am meeting people over the summer, I am asking the following guiding questions:
· What traditions and beliefs do we value as an organization?
· What are our strengths?
· What are our challenges?
· How are students performing academically in Nashua Public Schools?
· What are our untapped resources?
· What opportunities are available for ALL students?
· Are we meeting the needs of ALL children?

Monday, July 25, 2022 Meeting
- Congratulations to Matthew Poska and Brittany Duffy who were recommended and hired as Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools and Director of Human Resources, respectively.
- Several recommendations for expenditures on school facilities and contracted services were approved.
- Four new policies regarding the use of Automated External Defibrillators, Board Organization, Student Rights and Responsibilities, and Board Member Conflict of Interest were approved.
- The NSD with Board approval will seek proposals to manage middle school redistricting.
- The recommendation to approve the McKinney Vento Competitive 3-Year Grant for a total of more than $75,000 was approved.
The next Nashua Board of Education meeting will be held, Monday, August 22, 2022.

7 25 2022 Nashua Board of Education Meeting
Class of 2022: I would like to start this evening by first adding my congratulations to the Class of 2022, more than 835 of them.
It has been interesting to me to learn about the post-high school plans:
North/South Class of 2022
67% = Higher Education (4- and 2-Year Colleges and Technical/Trade Schools)
2% = Military
25% = Employmnet
6% = Other Palns, including Gap Year
Among our college-bound students
11 highly competitive STEM-associated schools
(MIT (2), Georgia Tech (4), Tufts (2), WPI, Carnegie Mellon, and Clarkson)
5 Ivy League Schools
(Cornell, UPenn, Yale, and Dartmouth (2))
Others have been accepted into other schools considered highly competitive, such as UCal Berkeley and UCLA; BC, BU, and Northeastern; Syracuse, Villanova, Fordham, and Purdue. And one of our graduates is attending Tampere University in Finland.
Many are pursuing college through the University System of New Hampshire and other public schools here in New England and across the country.

Class of 2022…Panthers and Titans…I wish you continued success in all that you do!
Gatorade Track & Field Player of the Year: Congratulations to Soraya Ross, Nashua HS South Class of 2024! Gatorade recently announced Soraya as the 2021-22 Gatorade New Hampshire Track & Field Player of the Year.
The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.
This spring Soraya won two individual events and anchored the winning 4x100 meter relay at the NHIAA Division I championship meet.
Soraya set a meet record of 12.19 seconds in the 100-meter dash, and won the 200 in 25.79 seconds and led the 4x100 relay in another meet-record time of 49.29 seconds. In addition, she later captured the same three events at the Meet of Champions and took fourth in the 100 at the New England Interscholastic Championships.
Congratulations, Soraya!
Teacher Professional Development: There are countless teachers and administrators participating in professional learning this summer. I want to thank Dr. Sarfde, Mr. Cioppa, Ms. Bagley, our administrators, and our teachers for organizing these opportunities.
· Integrating ELA and Science – 5th grade
· NGSS/Amplify Science Implementation – 3rd grade
· Eighth Grade: Science Unit Orientation – 8th grade
· Amplify Science Assessments – 3rd-5th grades and 6th-8th grades
· Back to School for Multilingual Learners
· Revising ELA Units of Study- 6th-8th grade
Building and Grounds: I want to recognize our custodians and maintenance staff. They are working incredibly hard to clean and repair our buildings in preparation for our next school year.
