We would like to thank all of our staff, scholars, and families that participated in PLA93's Sweetheart Dance on Wednesday. This was the first time we held this event and because of the great turnout, we plan to hold it again in the future.

Sixth grade scholars received a visit from staff at JRPLA, Phalen's middle/high school, this week. We have given all sixth graders a registration form to complete with their parent. This must be completed and returned in order for them to attend the upcoming tour to the middle school. Mark you calendars for March 18, 19, and 20 for JRPLA's Enrollment Fun Fair. This will be an opportunity for parents to learn more about the school as well. Registration is currently open to Phalen scholars but will soon open to the public. Reserve your child's spot at the premiere middle school on the far east side today!

Next Friday, February 29, scholars are encouraged to dress up as a black history figure of their choosing, one that was highlighted in their homeroom, or to wear a shirt that represents black pride. If you have any questions, please follow up with your child's teacher.

REMINDER: For the safety of our scholars and staff, please DO NOT turn around in the middle of the street in front of the school during morning arrival. You may exit the drop-off line by exiting through the school driveway or on Shadeland Ave. Additionally, scholars ARE NOT to be dropped off in the school's driveway, crosswalk, or in the bus zone. Having cars and students in this area jeopardizes staff and student safety. All car riders should be unloading in the school driveway (car rider line).

Reminder: There is no school on Monday, February 19th in observance of President's Day. Also, teachers will be reaching out to families that need to attend our Spring Parents in Touch Conferences which will take place on Wednesday, February 28th. Scholars will be completing work at home on this date.

Our community spotlight this week is Community Alliance of the Far Eastside (CAFE) who is hosting a black male mental health summit. More details can be found below.

James and Rosemary Phalen Leadership Academy (JRPLA), Indy's premier middle school/high school, will be hosting an Enrollment Fun Fair beginning Monday, March 18 through Wednesday, March 20. This is an opportunity for you to learn more about the opportunities for you child's education as they transition to middle school.

Please be aware that as winter approaches we are at risk for severe weather. In the case that school must be delayed or canceled, you can expect the following:

1.) All of the major Indianapolis news stations will be notified to broadcast the cancelation or delay.

2.) You will receive an email and phone call from the school notifying you of the cancelation or delay.

3.) Scholars will be provided with work prior to or after the event to complete for an e-learning day.

PLA@93 is enrolled in the Box Tops for Education program to raise money for our school! Box tops has done away with the traditional box tops clips, but now they have an app where you can scan your receipt and earn points instantly. Box Tops are worth $.10 each and they add up fast! Twice a year, our school receives a check to help pay for whatever we need - equipment, supplies or experiences the kids love! This is a very easy way to earn money for the school. 4. The number of Box Tops earned with your receipt will be credited to the classroom you selected.
5. To see where your child's classroom stands on our leaderboard, open the Box Tops app, tap on the school card on the Home screen and check out Fall Leaderboard on the school dashboard.

Want to give credit for a digital or email receipt? Go into the Box Tops app, tap on the My Earnings button at the top of the screen and tap on the transaction you'd like to credit. Scroll past the list of products and tap on Give Credit at the bottom of the screen. Then, select your child's classroom.
