SHARK SHOUTOUTS
A Huge, Grateful Shark Shout Out to Zack Gill and Christy Lin who permitted me to interview and record them for my Distance Learning Seminar assignment on Jewish-American and Asian-American experiences with stereotyping and micro-/macro-aggressions. Several students are thanking them in their written responses to the videos. I can't thank them enough. -Ms. Lisa Forte-Doyle
A Special Shark Shout Out to Matt Brown for kindly allowing me to share a video in which he interviews his daughter, Hannah, about living with a disability. She made a lasting impact on my students. Thanks also to Matt for his help and insight in teaching our seminar course. In fact, here's a shout out to George Sowpel and Rich Houston for keeping me somewhat sane during this remote year!! -Ms. Lisa Forte-Doyle
- Shark Shout Out to Ms. Emma Santoni (MRHS class of 2020) for coming back to her alma mater and subbing in our classes! Emma brings not only a knowledge of the building, content, and staff but also an enthusiastic and optimistic energy that makes the days easier and brighter! We are grateful to Emma, and encourage any other local alum interested in our students and school, to follow her footsteps and register as a substitute for our building! Update on Status of Winter Sports
I wanted to send our families an update on the status of winter sports. On Friday we received the updated EEA guidelines for youth sports. Within these guidelines basketball and ice hockey remain high risk activities. The EEA has asked the MIAA sport committees to come up with modifications to these sports in order to reduce the risk of transmission. The MIAA sport committees have 5 days to put this information together and present it to the MIAA Covid - 19 Task Force and MIAA Sports Medicine Committee. Once that occurs, the MIAA Covid - 19 Task Force and MIAA Sports Medicine Committee, will present their recommendations to the MIAA Board of Directors. At that time the MIAA Board of Directors will make a determination on which winter sports are safe to be played with modifications. I am hopeful all of this will occur within the next two weeks.
With all of this being said, I have not yet opened Family ID for winter sports registrations. I am waiting to find out which winter sports will be offered before I do that. Once we have official word from the MIAA and have made a District decision regarding winter sports, I will send out communication with all the information you need for winter sports.
In the meantime, make sure your student-athletes have updated physicals on file with the school nurses. They are good for 13 months from the start of the season. As of right now, high school winter sports are set to start on November 30th. This could change once the Board of Directors makes a decision.
A determination will be made by the Monomoy Administrative team regarding both high school and middle school winter sports once we hear from the MIAA.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. As always if you have any questions, don't hesitate to email or call the office.
Thank you for your time.

WEEKLY ATHLETICS ROUNDUP
WEEK OF 11/9/20: Cape and Island League Tournament
BOYS SOCCER - Sean Deveau
The 3rd seeded Sharks traveled to Old Townhouse Field on Wednesday as they played 2nd seeded Sturgis West in the semifinals of the Cape & Islands League Lighthouse Tournament. The game started off slow with both teams trading shots with one another as the rain fell down hard on the muddy field. Halfway through the 2nd quarter the Sharks found an answer, following a pass from Duncan Ramler, Captain Sam Higgins scored his first goal of the season when the Sharks needed it most. Late in the 3rd quarter Ramler got his 2nd assist of the game when Damarr Beckford tapped the ball in off of his shot. Great defensive play From Josh Coughlin, Trey Cox, Wesley Ulrich, and Connor Nicholson as Colin Moore and Miles Boyle played strong in the Midfield. Sean Deveau got his seventh shutout of the year in net as the Sharks beat the Navigators 2-0. The Sharks reach the tournament finals and await a score from the other semifinal game of Sturgis East and SJP which is to be played Saturday afternoon. The finals will be played on Monday at 4:30, either at Monomoy High School or Old Townhouse Field, depending on the winner of the game tomorrow.
GIRLS SOCCER - Leah Nash
The girls soccer team had a strong ending to their season this week with the first two rounds of tournament playoffs. On Tuesday night, the girls played Sturgis East under the lights at home, coming away with a 2-0 victory. The first goal came from an awesome shot by senior Maggie Dever, just after the start of the first quarter. Junior Kate Gabri was next to follow, capitalizing on a cross in from Grace Ventura out on the wing position, with a truly phenomenal shot from up top. Shoutout to the 8th graders, who had major opportunities versus Sturgis East, for stepping up!
On Wednesday, the girls traveled to Sandwich where they faced Sturgis West for the second round of tournament play. It was an extremely hard fought game by the entire team, with strong efforts coming from each player. Despite keeping the score 0-0 until the final quarter, when Sturgis West scored off a cross in from the side, Monomoy lost 1-0, a heartbreaking defeat especially for the seniors. Shoutout to the whole team for an amazing season and for holding it down during that last game, facing the toughest team in the league. We will miss you seniors!
FIELD HOCKEY - Amy Hinesley
After a hard-fought 4-0 loss to Sandwich, field hockey prepared for a winning streak! Last Friday, for their last regular-season game, the girls overwhelmingly defeated Falmouth 6-0. Amy Hinesley scored one goal with Caroline DiGiovanni putting the other five into the net. Carly Dimock and Helen DiGiovanni both had beautiful passes and offensive movement on the forward line. Goalies Caroline Upson and Caitlin Bouvier had amazing saves in the net to keep a shutout for the whole game. There was also amazing defensive work by Nikki Awalt, Alexis Culver, Jane Howard, and Lanie Fritsch. Yesterday, the girls took on St. John Paul for their first tournament game and won 9-1 with goals from Caroline and Helen DiGiovanni, Carly Dimock, Bela McMahon, Susannah Brown, and Ella Reeves. They are having their second tournament game this Saturday at 11 on the turf! Come support your girls!
CROSS COUNTRY - Courteney Dery
The Cross Country team had their league meet on Saturday the 7th. With some of the team unable to participate while in a two week quarantine, the sharks had to give it their all to make up for the losses. The boys team raced first and finished six place in the league. The girls team finished second in the league, losing a first place finish to Sturgis East. The team came out of the season with six All-Stars; Ryder Robbins, Gareth Vos, James Machnik, Rhiannon Vos, Courteney Dery, and Sophie Machnik. Aidan Melton and Courteney Dery also received individual awards for sportsmanship in the season.
