Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools
State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.
Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.
Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.
Review and Update Emergency Information
If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.
All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.
We look forward to partnering with you to make 2021-22 a safe, fun and productive school year for all of our students and families.

ATHLETICS
SPORTS SCOREBOARD
12/4 - Varsity Boys Hockey
On Saturday, the Lightning boys traveled to Centennial for a non-conference game feeling momentum from their 2-1 Thursday victory over St. Thomas Academy. Eastview took the opening face-off and put the first shot on net while creating a nice scoring opportunity. However, the game took a quick turn as the Cougars scored the first goal 38 seconds in on a fluky deflection that managed to pop over the shoulder of goalie Jay Svaren. Centennial scored three more times in the opening frame, including a goal in the last minute. Connor Christian did a nice job playing goal after coming in off of the bench but the Lightning were down 4-0 and outshot 14-5.
The Lightning showed some determination and grit by skating hard in the second, a period dominated by a steady stream to the penalty box with two sets of coincidental penalties and both teams trading power play opportunities. The Lightning had an effective power play four minutes into the second with the best chance coming when Tanner Kronberg made a nice play at the goal mouth but was unable to jam it in. The Lightning had several quality scoring chances during the period including a nice individual effort by Gabe Tritschler but they were unable to solve the Cougar net minder. Bad breaks continued for the Lightning as Centennial scored a goal on a deflection that had more arch than a basketball shot and Ben Keefer saw his skate blade pop off after a check during a dump in.
The Lightning next take on the Eagan Wildcats on Tuesday in the season’s first home and conference game at Apple Valley High School at 7 p.m. While the boys obviously did not want to lose 7-0 after an emotional win against St. Thomas, they will learn some lessons about working hard every shift and putting this game behind them as they move into a series of key conference games.
12/2 - Varsity Boys Hockey
12/2: The Eastview Boys Hockey faced off with section rival St Thomas and came away with a 2-1 victory. Jay Svaren was stellar in the nets with 32 saves. Eastview’s defensive core of Sam Gillis, Nick Karam, Ben Keefer, Ryan Moline, Logan Opgrand and Gabe Tritschler also had a great game.
St Thomas opened the scoring with a first period goal and then there was no scoring until Logan Opgrand scored a powerplay goal early in the 3rd period, assisted by Zach Wooten and Jordan Larkee. Then with less than 1:30 left on the clock, Eastview scored! Gabe Tritschler passed it up the boards to Tanner Kronberg who had a nice rush and skated by a St Thomas defensemen and then found Cody Domagalski in front of the net who buried the game winner! The Eastview student section again had a tremendous showing and outnumbered the St Thomas students. The lightning boys wrap up their three game road trip on Saturday against Centennial.
JV SPORTS
12/4 - JV Boys Hockey Team Suffers First Loss of Season
The Eastview boys JV hockey team traveled north to face the Centennial Cougars on Saturday in a non-conference game. Centennial came out strong in the first period and was the first team to put the puck in the net with 11:06 left in the first period. Centennial quickly got another one in on a rebound to take a 2-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the first. The Cougars put themselves ahead by three goals with a shot to the upper corner.
The Lightning quickly responded with a goal of their own when Luke Wasilowski chipped one in to help close the gap, bringing the game to 3 -1 Centennial. Lightning forward Parker Cameron had the assist. With less than two minutes left in the period, the Cougars scored again when goalie Blake Jensen came out to play the puck. Eastview ended the first period down 4 to 1.
The Lightning had a stronger second period and held Centennial scoreless but were unable to get the puck past Centennial’s goalie. Centennial scored three more goals in the third period; one was during a four on four and one was a shorthanded goal. Final score was 7 to 1 Centennial with the Cougars outshooting the Lightning 27 to 14. The game marked Eastview’s JV boys team’s first loss of the season and dropped their record to 4-1-1.
The Lightning face crosstown rival Eagan for their first home game on Tuesday, December 7th at 5:00 PM and will be looking to redeem themselves.
12/2 - JV Boys outflank the Cadets from St. Thomas Academy
The JV Boys hockey team earned a well-deserved 3-2 win against the St. Thomas Cadets JV at the St. Thomas Ice Arena on Thursday night. The Cadets opened the scoring with just under 8 minutes left in the first period on the power play, a tipped shot in front of the Eastview net. St. Thomas scored their second power play goal of the night with just under 9 minutes left in the 2nd period, to take what appeared to be a commanding 2-0 lead. However, the Lightning came storming back, scoring 3 goals over the next 3 minutes to take a 3-2 lead. #33 Abram Johnson opened the scoring for the Lightning with an unassisted even strength goal. Followed by a short handed unassisted goal by #34 Sean Kalthoff. Followed by the final goal of the second period for the Lightning, an even strength tally from #24 Kevin Woehler, assisted by #14 Reed Ellingson. There was no scoring in the final period as the Lightning held off a late push by the Cadets, which included a brief 5 on 3 power play for the Cadets in the final minutes of the game, with the Cadets ending the game on a 5 on 4 power play. Kaden Goff was strong in goal saving 25 of 27 shots and earned the victory for the Lightning. Final shots for the game were 27-20 in favor of St. Thomas. The JV Boys now hit the road at Centennial on Saturday December 4th at 1:00 P.M.
