US Women's Olympic contender in Jarrell
Olympic hopeful Captain Riley Tejcek will be at the American Legion in Jarrell on Saturday, February 17 from 1 pm to 4 pm. The Legion is hosting a "Lunch with an Olympian." She has an inspiring story that is beneficial for children to hear.
In addition to her role in the Marine Corps, she is the leading contender to be the pilot on the 2026 Winter Olympics US Women's Bobsled Team. Only 4% of officers in the Marines are women. The Legion is providing free hot dogs, chips, and drinks.

National PTA Founder's Day
For 125 years, National Parent Teacher Association (National PTA®) has worked toward bettering the lives of every child in education, health and safety. Founded in 1897 as the National Congress of Mothers by Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst, National PTA is a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for public education.
Founders’ Day
Founders’ Day (Feb. 17) is when we celebrate the legacy and work of our founders—Alice McLellan Birney, Phoebe Apperson Hearst and Selena Sloan Butler—to better the lives of every child in education, health and safety. It is a time to reflect and take pride in our achievements, and renew our commitment to be a:
- powerful voice for all children;
- relevant resource for parents; and
- strong advocate for public education.
Our founders represented women of imagination and courage. They had a simple idea—to improve the lives and future of all children. They understood the power of individual action, worked beyond the accepted barriers of their day, and took action to change the world for all children.

The law requires a student to attend public school until the student’s 19th birthday. Students enrolled in prekindergarten or kindergarten are required to attend school and are subject to the compulsory attendance requirements as long as they remain enrolled. (Section 25.085(c).
When a student is absent, the student must bring a note to the attendance office within three days of the absence. After three days, parent notes may not be accepted and the absences will be considered unexcused. A maximum of three (3) parent notes per semester will be accepted as excused.

Visitors to the School (All Grade Levels)
General Visitors Parents and others are welcome to visit district schools. For the safety of those within the school and to avoid disruption of instructional time, all visitors must first report to the main office and comply with all applicable district policies and procedures. All visitors should be prepared to show identification. Individuals may visit classrooms or observe virtual instruction during instructional time only with approval of the principal and teacher. Visitors may not interfere with instruction or disrupt the normal school environment. All visitors are expected to demonstrate the highest standards of courtesy and conduct. Disruptive behavior or violations of student privacy will not be permitted.
Lunch Update:
Our cafeteria courtyard construction project is still under active construction at this time.
Once the courtyard renovations are fully complete, we will once again welcome parents to join their students for lunch in this area. Student safety is our top priority.
We are all eager for the courtyard's completion and very much look forward to inviting parents back once it's ready. Eating with a parent is a special experience we want to make available to students again soon. I appreciate your understanding.
