Our Tumuaki Principal
Year Six Farewell and Prizegiving: This year, with all that has been happening, we went virtual for our Year Six Farewell and Prizegiving. Thank you for your understanding and grace around this. The event is on our Facebook page for all to see.
Well done to all the recipients who were acknowledged for their contributions and achievements. A full list is further down our newsletter.
Thank you to all those who contributed including the School Board Presiding Chair Mr Jacob Smyth, Mrs Jenny Coyle for live streaming it, Miss Jasmine Collett for the photos and Miss Sanne den Boon for the considerable level of thought, attention to detail and professionalism she put into this event. Well done Sanne.
Annual Report - 2021: Each year I present an Annual Report. It covers off what has occurred in our school for that year. Below is my 2021 Annual Report.
In it I have a full range of thank yous to the many people who contribute to the vibrancy of our school. There is also some achievement information regarding reading, writing and maths for our whole school that you may find interesting.
Annual Plan - 2022: My job as principal is to take the School Board's Strategic Plan and break that down into actions for the following year. This is called an Annual Plan. See the link below for what we are desiring to achieve in 2022.
2022 Teaching Team: We have a great group of teachers and we are looking forward to 2022.
The 2022 classrooms came together on Thursday and it was awesome to see them geling already in their new teams.

- Mrs Abby Duffy and Mrs Hayley Clarke - Team Kiwi (Room 2): Year One and Two
- Mrs Jenny Coyle - Team Pukeko (Room 3): Year Two and Three

COVID 19 in 2022: This week I took the unusual step of sending out information regarding how I see 2022 panning out in regards to COVID-19. With the new Covid Protection Framework, schools are open at every light setting (Red, Orange and Green). However, if there is a case in the school we will have to respond in a nuanced and localised manner.
My key messages are...
- We will be stronger by being prepared.
- There is joy in positive routines.
- We will be able to keep our school routines in place as long as possible by being vigilant and careful.
The link to the full notice is below.
Christmas Postie Elf: The 'Christmas Postie Elf' delivered several thousand cards to the children in the last two weeks of the school year. It was such a great time. The children love it and it created a real sense of community within the school.
Thank you: A big thank you from the staff to the kind parents who have dropped gifts into school for us. We do really appreciate your thoughts, good messages and yummy treats and eats.
Last Newsletter: This is our last newsletter for 2021. Thanks for your vigilance in reading it. As it is one of our key communication platforms, we appreciate your time keeping up with what is happening at our school.
Thank You - Team Edendale
- Sanne den Boon: There is a lot expected of a Year Six teacher that is beyond what many other classrooms have to manage. This presents itself more acutely at the end of the year with a full range of additional work requirements. Sanne has stepped into this role and is going from strength to strength, in difficult and changing circumstances, to make the most of the time for our Year Six children. Thank you, Sanne.

Character Values (Positive Behaviour for Learning - PB4L): Term Four Integrity Ponotanga
When we come from so many different families our values draw us together as one big school whanau.
Integrity means behave to a high standard of character everywhere we are and is shown through honesty, truthfulness, accuracy, consistent behaviour, selflessness and self-discipline.
At all times and in all places we can show integrity when we
- Are honest and trustworthy.
- Do the right thing even when no-one is looking.
- Make positive choices that we are proud of.
Every time our values are shown they make our school a great place to be for children and adults.
Term One - Manaakitanga Respect
Term Two - Haepapa Responsibility
Term Three - Tohungatanga Excellence
Principal's Values Award
This week the Principal/Tumuaki would like to acknowledge Fillan Bajo for being a strong contributor, living out our school values every day.
Write of the Week
Piper Muir
Team Pukeko
On hot summer days my family likes to get some ice cold ice cream.
When I eat ice cream I always get a brain freeze.
Once we are finished with our yummy ice cream
we go home to get ready for the pool.
We sometimes stop at Edendale and walk to the pool to have a swim.
We sometimes get to be in the pool for an hour or so to cool down.
Once we are ready to go home we walk to the car and go home.
Sometimes we eat our dinner outside
and we get to stay up late to see the stars.
We like to see the stars because they are bright.
