General Information

On August 17th, 2022 at 6:30 pm, President Snider called the public budget hearing meeting to order. Superintendent Kashner presented the final reading of the FY23 budget. He shared expected expenses to be $11,498,617 with revenue to be $11,795,114, creating a projected surplus of $296,497.00. Superintendent Kashner commented that the remaining surplus will be used towards renovation costs. The budget hearing adjourned and the regular meeting was called to order. The consent agenda was approved including board bills. Superintendent Kashner shared information regarding the Northwest Division dinner taking place on October 24th in Scales Mound. Board member Henze presented ideas to the rest of the BOE on renovating Lions Park. Superintendent Kashner shared an audit update. He thanked Mrs. Hartman and Mrs. Janssen for their work to ensure another smooth audit process. The district is expecting a summary of the audit in early November as usual.

Old Business

In Old Business, the BOE approved the FY23 budget, the Emergency/Crisis and Risk Management plans, and a facility request for 6th grade volleyball.


The Emergency/Crisis Plan is an annual report outlining procedures in the case of events. Superintendent Kashner shared that the team will continue to meet on a regular basis to provide updates as needed. The Risk Management Plan is a required document to levy in the Tort fund. The risk management plan outlines what the district will spend allocated funds on. Superintendent Kashner shared that the majority of the funds will be spent on the school resource officer, intercom and phone systems, and keyless entry resources.

New Business

In New Business, the BOE approved threat assessment procedures as required by the regional office of education and the state of Illinois. Superintendent Kashner shared that he is thankful for the support and resources given to ensure school safety is a high priority at Eastland. He commented that school districts are required to have threat assessment protocols in place to ensure proper notification is given to the state and regional office. Superintendent Kashner outlined the process and procedures in place.

Superintendent Report

In the Superintendent report, Dr. Kashner shared highlights from the first day of school, back to school open house, and a transportation report update.


Principal King and Principal Burkholder both shared that they felt the back to school open houses and first day of school were hugely successful and thanked their staff for making it happen. Member Witt commented that it was a terrific event and parents really appreciated it. Superintendent Kashner commented that having students in the buildings is what it is all about and really gets everyone excited for the upcoming year.


Superintendent Kashner shared pick up locations for this year from the transportation department regarding in-town pick ups due to number of students on busses.
