Dr. Marscher's Message
Art Recess Club will occur once a week and take place in the art room with a mix of children across the grade level. Students will have the opportunity to sign up in the proceeding month and will be expected to commit to the month long cycle (approximately 4 meetings). A wait list will be created where applicable.
If you would not like your child to participate in this opportunity please email sgolestani@natickps.org
Five Things You Need to Know
1- EARLY RELEASE WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 14TH
Be sure to make any changes in Pick Up Patrol. We MUST go by what is entered into our system.
2- WINTER IS COMING
Cold, wet weather signals the start of boot and snow pant season. Lilja Lions go out to recess as often as possible, even in rain, cold, and snow (inclement weather indoor recess guidelines are monitored by our nursing team).
Please dress your child accordingly, and be sure practice independent dressing and removal of these items. Remember to send in sneakers on your child's P.E. day!
3- INDOOR RECESS: PARTNERING WITH YOU
Our Lions will go out to recess as often as possible. However, there are days that are too cold or icy for safe play. On these days our students will have indoor recess, with a range of games and activities available for their use. Students who engage in play at home, and have learned the rules of board games (e.g. Candyland, Uno, Connect Four) through family game time are often most successful.
The benefits of family game time at home are numerous, "Age appropriate games can help children to think strategically, solve problems creatively, work on pattern recognition and build simple math skills. They also help children develop social skills such as following rules, taking turns, and graceful winning or losing. Additionally, a family game night provides an opportunity for children to bond with siblings, parents and family members as well as peers. It can promote tradition building and establish a fun routine."
4- EVERYDAY SPEECH TOPIC: SELF MANAGEMENT
Self-Management is the process we use to regulate and cope with our emotions as well as motivate ourselves and perform throughout our day.
After completing these lessons, students should be able to:
- Monitor and regulate emotions
- Use awareness of emotions to guide decisionāmaking
- Motivate oneself
- Cope with stress and anxiety
- Exercise self-control and delay gratification
- Express emotions appropriately
5 - REMINDER: LOST AND FOUND
Our lost and found is located near the main office. You can check out the PTO lost and found page here, or stop by and check for your child's belongings. Any remaining items will be donated at winter break.
The Lilja PTO is a group of volunteer parents. Our goals are to enrich the education of our children, support the teachers and staff, and serve the Lilja community as a whole. We fundraise to supply materials, fund programs, organize social functions, and coordinate parent volunteers, all of which enhance the experience of Lilja students and build a sense of community within the school.
