A Pint for Kim Blood Drive and Life Saving Festival - May 13, 2023
The region’s largest grass-roots blood donation awareness movement is moving to Naperville North High School. The group, “A Pint For Kim”, was created in 2020 by Naperville mom Kimberley Benedyk Sandford in her final weeks of life. She wanted to give purpose to her eight year battle with cancer, and so she wanted her family and friends to use her story to spread awareness that the largest use of donated blood goes to cancer patients.
Now that Kim’s two boys are both at Naperville North High School, the 4th Annual A Pint For Kim Blood Drive & Life Saving Festival will move to the school on May 13th. In addition to being the largest one-day, one-location blood drive in the state, the event includes live bands, food trucks, a super-car show, games, and more. The event is free and open to the public.
Currently the organization is seeking items for their free raffle. Every blood donor and event volunteer gets 10 raffle tickets to an exclusive raffle that previously has had over $30,000 in prizes annually. The organization does not raise money, so no extra tickets are sold. It is just an added incentive for those who come out to donate blood in Kim’s memory.
Visit www.apintforkim.com for more information or contact Kim’s sister Kristyn Benedyk at apintforkim2023@gmail.com if your family, business, or team is interested in donating a raffle item. Any Naperville North students who wish to volunteer can do so through a Signup Genius link that will be available soon.
Run for The Mind 5K, Diaper Dash, and Color Run: The DuPage County Prevention Leadership Team (PLT) together with the DuPage Action Team, NAMI DuPage, and Serenity House will be hosting the new teen-led color run on June 10, 2023, starting at 10:00am at the DuPage County Fairgrounds.
Join us in ending the stigma by participating in this fun and colorful event! Funds raised will support NAMI DuPage and PLT initiatives to increase mental health awareness, promote access to 988 and Crisis Text Line resources and reduce substance use and addiction among DuPage County youth.
NAMI DuPage is also hosting a Run for the Mind 5k and a Diaper Dash. A commemorative t-shirt will be provided. Runners will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of registration packages.
· 5K Run/Walk |8 a.m.
· Diaper Dash |9:30 a.m.– Ages 3 and Under
· 1 Mile Color Run |10 a.m. – Ages 3 and Older (under 9 must be accompanied by an adult)
Runners will enjoy a flat, paved, winding course through the scenic natural areas around the DuPage County Fairgrounds and the DuPage County Government Center. The 5K route is USATF certified.
A post-race breakfast is provided for all runners and is available for a donation for race spectators. Light refreshments will be available at the post-race recovery area.
Please note, in the incident of inclement and/or severe weather, the event will be canceled, and there will not be a rain date. No refunds, no exchanges. To find more event details, to register, or to donate please visit: https://raceroster.com/events/2023/73498/nami-run-for-the-mind
