Message from Principal Hickox

Dear Huffman families,


Happy February! I love this time of year as the days are noticeably longer and it is still light out when we leave the school at the end of the day. I hope you all are enjoying the longer days too. February is a busy month here at Huffman with another Texas Roadhouse Fundraiser on February 9, the return of Winter Sports Day on Feb 12, Parent Teacher conferences February 16-17, and a long weekend from February 18-21.


I know we usually celebrate Teacher Appreciation week in May, but I would encourage everyone to reach out to your child's teacher and let them know that you appreciate their hard work. We have had lots of absences lately, and our teachers are working extra time, either preparing work for absent students, or covering classes for absent staff members. A quick email to show your appreciation will go a long way. I would love to be copied on any email you send so that I can hear about great things happening in our classrooms too!

Parent Teacher Conferences

The conference schedule is available online. Conferences will be held on February 16th and 17th, and students will be released at 12:30 on those days. There is no school on Friday, February 18 or Monday, February 21 for President's Day. Enjoy that long weekend!

I-Did-A-Read

The I-Did-A-Read is back! Parents, please be on the lookout for more information and volunteer opportunities in the March newsletter for our upcoming readathon beginning March 14th!

Notes from Nurse Krista

Please continue to monitor your children for any symptoms of illness and keep them home if they are sick. We are still seeing many positive COVID cases in our community. Please do not mask the symptoms by giving your child medication before coming to school. Thanks for helping us keep all of our children healthy!

Homework for Trips

Families often ask their teachers to prepare school work for students when families go on vacation. Please know that it is not always possible to do this. Plans and needs change every day, and as we learned last year, there is a lot more to teaching and learning than just sending work home! Although we don't require teachers to provide work ahead of time, I do encourage families to work together with their teachers to make up work when they return. Thanks for your understanding.
