Superintendent's Message 10-27-23
-From The Desk of the Superintendent-
Dear ALCS families,
We made it! Today (Oct. 27) is the end of the First Quarter! We've had a wonderful start to the 2023-2024 school year. I am looking forward to more great things as we begin the Second Quarter on Monday.
Good luck to our Varsity Football Team this evening in the first round of the playoffs at home. The Shoremen are facing Fremont Ross High School.
Thank you to everyone who generously donated to the Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services SOUPer Bowl! The real winners are the Avon and Avon Lake families, individuals and senior citizens served by CRS. Congratulations to Avon.
This year both communities combined collected 7,828 lbs. of food and $18,301 in monetary donations. The food and cash combined represents approximately 99,335 lbs. of food for the CRS food pantry. AMAZING!! That will help A LOT of people. THANK YOU!!!
ALHS had three students qualify for the Ohio Mathematical Invitational Olympiad (OHMIO), seniors Leah Sanitato and Dylan Missal, and junior Michael O’Brien. Our qualifiers scored in the top 100 in the State in the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics (OCTM) Ohio Tournament of Mathematics to earn this right.
The ALHS Math Team is also heading to Columbus on Nov. 4 to compete alongside some of the other top math students in the State on a grueling individual written competition, a challenging team competition in which they will work in groups of four with kids from other schools, and a timed ciphering competition where they have to work quickly on challenging problems. Good luck students and advisor ALHS math teacher Jim Goodman.
Halloween is Tuesday (Oct. 31) and we have a lot of great things happening in our schools to celebrate. It will be a real treat to see our students dressed up in costumes. Staff members also enjoy getting into the Halloween spirit. Reminder to please choose a costume that does not reflect violence. Inappropriate “props” such as plastic guns, knives, and weapons of any kind are not allowed – even if they are a part of your child’s costume. Students should wear their costumes to school and all costumes should maintain the integrity of our school dress code. Have fun and be safe.
