Dr. Greer: Counting my many blessings during my first Fall in Maize
Hi, Maize students! I am loving my first semester here in Maize USD 266! Please check out some of the photos of the fun I am having connecting with everyone in our #MaizeFamily. With it being the season of gratitude, I wanted to share with you some of the blessings I am counting this November:
- I am thrilled to see your love of learning in action. At Pray-Woodman Elementary School, Media Center Specialist Mrs. Shields invited students and educators to share photos of them reading to their pets. More than 100 people participated! It looked so fun, and I wanted to get in on the action. Enjoy these photos of me reading to my dog Stella.
- I enjoy the chance to bring people in the community together. I am fortunate to work with students, teachers, parents, and others who want to make Maize USD 266 the best it can be for you! In fact, that inspired me to dress as glue during our costume day at work on Oct. 31. Everyday, I try to be like glue and help things stick together! Thank you to my Superintendent Student Advisory Team and others for working with me and others on improvements throughout the district. You can click here to read the most recent Maize Pulse e-newsletter to learn more about their project to support respectful classroom learning environments. During our Nov. 1 Site Council Kickoff, I also started to work with many of your parents on setting goals to improve Maize. We are stronger and better together!
- I am delighted by the surprises and delights in our schools. During my first Super Note in September, I challenged you to put a little extra something into your classroom, your school, and/or your home that would surprise and delight your friends, teachers, principals, or family members to make someone else’s day better. One of my favorite ways I have accepted this challenge myself is by surprising a few teachers with Teacher Tag Outs. You may even have been there one of the times when it happened! I show up unexpectedly to a classroom, give the teacher a high five, and invite him or her to take a break while I step in and teach their students. I have had so much fun and look forward to the next Teacher Tag Out!
Please know that, for me and many of us here at Maize USD 266, you, our students, are one of the most important blessings we count. Please join me in reflecting on some of the things that you are thankful for this year!
