Viking Family-

This week is National School Counselors Week, and we are SO PROUD to say that LVHS has 2 of the best school counselors ever- Lara Clark and Whitney Read! In an effort to say a heartfelt "thank you", we asked our LVHS faculty and staff for words they would use to describe Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Read. The word cloud above shows what their colleagues shared. They are both so amazing!

We also asked them to share specific ways they've seen our counseling team make LVHS a better place for ALL STUDENTS. Here are some of our thoughts about the incredible work our School Counselors do day in and day out:

• You have given students a safe space to be themselves.
• They have both always been welcoming to any student that walks in their door. Both are true problem solvers for kids!
• Being available for our kids
• Always being willing to help.
• Answering my questions on the fly about specific students! Very helpful!
• Our counselors are readily available to drop everything in order to help teachers or any student at any time.
• I appreciate their ability to work with students when they are upset and need reassurance.
• Our counselors really get to know our students and care about what their needs are.
• Having great information to share with us during professional development!
• The students see the counselors as a confidant and a kind voice of reason.
• Our counselors work tirelessly to ensure all our kids have to best class schedules possible! They spend countless hours trying to accommodate our students' many interests!
• Working with teachers and students who are in need of assistance to make a difference, one student at a time
• Staying calm when a student comes in fired up or overly emotional
• Participating in dress up days
• They are flexible and open-minded while still holding students accountable.
• Helping kids realize their dreams
• Making sure our kids are on the path to success
• Provide hope and the confidence that someone will listen.

Lara and Whitney, you are the absolute heartbeat of our school. You consistently provide a steady, safe place for students to land. Through the good, the bad, the dramatic, the comedic, and the tragic, you keep a pulse on our students, and you do it all with grace and JOY! Thank you for caring so deeply about all of our Vikings! We are thankful for you,

Tuesday, February 11. 6:30 pm @ Smithson Valley High School

We are the home team.
Tickets: $5 Adults. $3 Students. District and Coaches passes accepted.

Smithson Valley has a strict clear bag policy. Clutch ok. Any other bag must be clear.
NO outside food or drink. This includes Yetis and Stanleys and such.

GO LADY VIKINGS!!!!

The 2 most common illness we are seeing in our community right now are:

Flu A: Flu symptoms usually come on suddenly. People who have flu often feel some or all of these signs and symptoms:

• fever* or feeling feverish/chills
• cough
• sore throat
• runny or stuffy nose
• muscle or body aches
• headaches
• fatigue (tiredness)
• some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

*It's important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever.*

The Stomach Bug (most likely Norovirus): A person usually develops symptoms12 to 48 hours after being exposed to norovirus. We encourage students to wash their hands with soap and water instead of hand sanitizer. This virus is not killed by alcohol. Most common symptoms:

• diarrhea
• vomiting
• nausea
• stomach pain
• Other symptoms: Fever, headache, and body aches

Please monitor your child for any signs or symptoms and keep home if any fever within the last 24 hrs, vomiting/nausea, diarrhea, persistent coughing, listlessness or lethargy, or no appetite.

Students must stay home until they have had 24 hrs without vomiting or fever (not needing medicine to bring the fever down below 100) in order to return to school to help stop the spread of illness.

These athletes spent their Saturday at the Big Cat Invitational showing their strength! They brought home some impressive hardware including 1st place finishes in their respective weight classes from:

Lago Baseball season is in full swing! The Vikings would love to have the stands full for their next home games! Let's get those runs!

Counselors will be working steadily this semester to plan with students and parents regarding next year's coursework. Please encourage your students to check their emails and pay attention to announcements to set up these crucial meetings with their counselors. Parents are welcome to attend the 1:1 meetings, as well. Be on the lookout here and in your inbox for more information.

On Saturday, February 22 from 8:30am-11:30am, LVHS Admin and Counseling Team is offering the chance for Juniors to take a practice SAT in an environment similar to the real deal. We will provide a quiet space, similar timing, proctors, and breakfast ALL FOR NO COST to students. All we need is for students to pre-register so we know how to set up the space and how much breakfast to buy. Please have your student SIGN-UP HERE!

The annual La Primavera Bike Race is headed to Lago on February 28th-March 2nd! Keep Lago Vista Beautiful (KLVB) and other volunteers will be picking up trash on the 5.5 mile cycling route. PLEASE COME AND JOIN US!
