Wolf Notes
February 2024
Double Wolf Dare Week 2024 (February 26 thru March 1)
Double Wolf Dare Week 2024 has arrived! Thank you in advance for supporting Santa Fe Students as they raise money for Foster Care and Adoptive Association of Oklahoma (FCAO).
While DWDW is filled with events and activities, students are still in classes for 40-50 minutes on Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri (depending on that day's schedule). Wednesday is the only day that students can miss one or two hours of class if they purchase tickets to the assemblies for that day. Any rumors that students do not have to attend class or that they get to have double lunches are not accurate. We preview and practice each assembly prior to its performance to ensure safety and school appropriate behavior. Administrators also approve all the "Dares" that take place during the week to ensure safety and school appropriate behavior.
Over the years, DWDW Week has adjusted its events and activities when necessary to change with the times, but we have still kept many of our traditions in place. What DWDW looks like next week may not be what it looked like in 1996, but the goal is still the same--to help others in need. Currently, our annual practice is to pick a nonprofit organization based in Oklahoma and to contribute funds that positively impact the citizens of Oklahoma. Please help us make Leap Year Week next week a super successful one for DWDW 2024!
Graduation (Class of 2024)
Santa Fe's Graduation Ceremony will be on Friday, May 17th at 7:30 PM at our Football Stadium. Gates will open to families at 6:00 pm. We will send out specific instructions for Seniors and their Parents following Spring Break, but we want to provide some general information to Santa Fe stakeholders as you make plans for the event.
Santa Fe Stadium seats 5800 individuals. With over 600 graduates, that means that we can only guarantee seating for up to 9 attendees from each family and not go over capacity in the seating areas (to meet fire code guidelines). There will also be a live stream available in our school's auditorium to accommodate large families (more than 9) and families wishing a climate-controlled/easy access location for family members requiring handicap accessibility (since handicap seating in the stadium fills quickly). This way, family members can still be at the event and see the graduate in-person following the program.
Please note that we will have parking monitors directing vehicles on campus in order to fill all designated parking spots. We will not be using the grassy areas or driving lanes for overflow parking. Also, the Santa Fe Avenue Entrance/Exit will be closed to the public during the event. It is being used by Emergency and District Vehicles as a point of entry and exit.
Thank you for helping us follow the above plans for Graduation! We want it to be a wonderful event for our graduates and their families!
Advisory Schedule and Non-Advisory Schedule (for Testing)
March 5, 6, 7 and March 12, 13, 14 are the final six days of Advisory Schedule this school year. Advisory is used for academic help and for school activity meetings. Following spring break we will transition to the Non-Advisory Schedule each day to accommodate State Testing in April and AP Testing in May. This change allows us to gain 30 additional minutes for testing, but it also means that students needing academic help and school activities will need to use time before school, at lunch, and after school to meet those needs. To offset the loss in Advisory, we are starting a Free Math Tutoring every Tuesday in Room 5 from 3:00-4:30 pm.
Spring Break (March 16 thru 24)
Spring Break will take place from March 16th thru March 24th. Only spring sports and activities will have access to use our school's campus during spring break (as determined by the coach or sponsor).
Musical (March 14, 15, and 16)
West Side Story is this year's spring musical at Santa Fe. There will be three evening performances March 14, 15, and 16 and also an afternoon matinee performance for students on March 15. Students will receive matinee information at a later time, but attached is a photo with information about the evening performances. Looking forward to another great show this year by our Performing Arts Students!
Items to Remember as the Weather gets Warmer...
- Freshman and Sophomore Students cannot leave campus during lunch.
- Sophomore students who recently began driving cannot leave campus during lunch.
- Many teachers are flexible in helping students catch up on missing and make-up work. Students should check with their teachers to see when those upcoming deadlines are to turn in missing and make-up work.
- Students should refer to the dress code (p. 14-16 in the Student Handbook) as the weather gets warmer so that they can stay in compliance with district rules.
- Our state requires that a student must be in attendance for 90% of the semester in order to receive credit in a class. That means that the student should not have more than nine total absences in a class during the semester. Also, three tardies equal one absence, so being late to school or late back from lunch or just late in general can have a negative impact on students receiving credit for their classes.
- Chronic Absenteeism is missing more than 10% of the school days for any reason (not counting school activities. Please help by ensuring that your student does not have more than 17 total absences for the school year.
- Thank you for contacting us to verify when your student is absent for illness, medical, family emergency, judicial, religious, or some other reason. The state no longer categorizes absences as excused or unexcused. We are asked to code as many absences as possible with a specific reason.
