Hello Glennwood Families,
I hope you are staying warm this week. Thank you for your flexibility as we navigated unforeseen changes in the schedule due to inclement weather and cold temperatures.
The Georgia Parent Survey is now open. This survey was developed to measure parent perceptions of school climate at your child’s school. Your opinion is very important to us. Your survey responses are confidential and will be combined with the survey responses of other parents at Glennwood to identify areas in need of improvement. I completed this for my own children's schools, and it is a quick survey! Thank you for your time and participation.
Warmest Regards,
Holly Brookins, Ph.D.
Principal
Glennwood’s Read-a-Thon 2024 Kicks Off at 3:00 pm on January 16 and Ends at 8 pm on January 24!
Read-a-Thon is one of our biggest PTA fundraisers that encourages all students to enjoy and excel in reading while participating in a friendly competition and having fun! Funds raised by PTA’s Read-a-Thon directly support Glennwood, including supplies needed for teachers, staff, and students, innovation grants, school improvements, teacher appreciation, Kindergarten t-shirts, and much more!
There are prizes for the following: top readers in each grade, Super Readers who read more than 540 minutes during Read-a-Thon, the class with the most minutes in each grade, and the class with the most minutes overall! Will your class win the coveted Regal Eagle Trophy?
How it Works:
Raising funds and logging minutes is easy and can all be done virtually at: https://glennwoodpta.ptboard.com/school/cm?mid=5535 or text “glennwoodreads” to 33100. Just do the following:
Register your child
Gather sponsors (flat fee donations are very appreciated!)
Set a reading goal
Read! Read! Read! (and log minutes once we kick off on January 16!)
SPECIAL NOTE: This is a new website so each child will need to register (even if your child has participated in Read-a-Thon in the past).
Read-a-Thon events to mark on your calendar:
Tuesday January 23: Pajama Party from 6:30-7:30 pm in the school auditorium. Wear your PJs, snack on cookies and milk, and snuggle in with a good book!
Friday January 26: Winners announced at Community Circle
Thank you for your participation and support! Questions? Contact Jen Lewin at jsimmenlewin@gmail.com
Remember, that any time spent reading (whether independently or with a grown-up) counts!
We are excited to announce this year’s keynote author and poet, Charles Waters!
Charles Waters is a children's poet, actor, and co-author of Charlotte Huck Honor Book, Can I Touch Your Hair? Poems of Race, Mistakes, and Friendship. His poems have appeared in various anthologies including One Minute Till Bedtime and The National Geographic Book of Animal Poetry.
He will be presenting his newest book, Be A Bridge to students at Glennwood Elementary. Written in rhyming verse, the book describes different ways in which readers can "be a bridge," from welcoming a new student to listening respectfully when someone else is talking to standing up to a bully to comforting a classmate who is upset.
Families may order copies of his books, Be A Bridge or Dictionary for A Better World. Please scan the QR code (left) to place your order by Wednesday, January 31. Mr. Waters will personalize and sign each book. 15% of sales go to support Glennwood! Both books are $19.99 each.
These books & more are available at www.braveandkindbooks.com. Thank you for supporting your local, independent bookstore!
Morning Tardies
We know that it can be challenging to get back into the school routine after a break, however, please ensure your child is here by 8:20am. When students arrive late to class, it is disruptive for the staff and students. As a reminder, students must be in their seats and ready to learn at 8:20am. Carpool ends at 8:18am. This allows students and staff to be in class on time and ready to start the day. After 8:18am, please park and walk your student to the front door. After 8:20am, you must come into the building and sign your child in for a tardy slip.
Lastly, if your child needs to eat breakfast, please do your best to have them here by 8:00am so that they will have time to finish and arrive to their classroom on time. Thank you!
