Welcome to a new week! Thanks for being a part of our village as we continue to motivate, inspire, and educate all students to be college and career ready. We are the Lions, and we'll have it no other way!!!!!!

Thank you to our many parents and students who attended our "Title One Parent University". We hope you were able to enjoy the session of your choice/interests as we selected sessions based on your survey feedback. Thank you, again. We appreciate your support and partnership!
School Announcements
1. School Closing:
Students will not be in school for the following days:
- Oct. 5th (Half Day) - Students will dismiss at 11:00am. Please inform the school in writing of any changes in transportation.
- Oct. 6th (Full Day) - There is no school for students. This is a district professional development day.
- Oct. 9th and 10th (Fall Break / Full Day) - There is no school for students or staff.
2. PBIS "Spirit Week"
- For our upcoming September PBIS celebration, we will kick off with "Spirit Week".
- Please see the flyer attached, which gives details for our "Spirit Attire" for the week.
3. Title One Parent Compact and Parent Engagement Policy
- Both documents were previewed at the Title One Parent University last Thursday.
- A copy for each student / parent will go home Monday, October 2.
- We are asking that each parent read both documents, and sign & return both documents by Monday, October 9th.
4. Report Cards
- Report Cards will go home Oct. 20th
- The 1st quarter ends October 5th.
- Please encourage your scholar to complete all assignments before the quarter ends.
5. "CoGAT Testing - 2nd Grade
- COGAT Testing will take place for our 2nd graders 10/16 - 10/20
- The COGAT scores will be used to determine Gifted and Talented Placement.
6. "Level Up" for Lunch (Parent Luncheon Invite)
- Come join us for our Title One sponsored "Level Up" for Lunch on Thursday, October 12th.
- A flyer will be sent home with lunch time details.
- Once you recieve the flyer, please return with reservation details.
- Our staff and students will dress up in their best "Gaming" attire. We encourage you to wear yours, as well!! Come join in on the fun!
7. Chorus Performance
- The Lemira Chorus will perform for HYPE's "Lights on After school" Celebration.
- The program will take place Thursday, October 5th @ 6pm

8. ESTEAM Festival
- Come join us for a day of science, math, engineering, arts, and math!
- Lemira's Student Council will have a STEM booth with engaging activities.
- The Lemira Percussion Ensemble (New Members and 6th Grade graduates) will reunite to perform.
- The eSTEAM Sumter festival will be on Saturday, Oct. 7th

9. Title One Math at McDonald's Night
- We will host our Title One "Math at McDonald's Night" Tuesday, October 17th.
- Please see flyer for details (Times and Location)
- To allow for the adequate amount of math kits, we do ask that you RSVP.
- Flyers went home for RSVP details,

10. Exact Path (Homework Extension)
- Parents, please encourage students to continue to log into Exact Path, even while at home to build their skills in the areas of Reading and Math.
- Each day, all of our students participate in an enrichment block, in which they spend 30 minutes working on skills catered to their independent level in Exact Path.
11. Blue Communication Homework Folders:
- Each student has or will recieve a "Blue Communication" folder on their first day of entrance.
- Please ask your scholar for the folder. Important paperwork is included, which will require your signatures.
- Please check this folder daily for any upcoming events or important news.
- Your scholar's classroom "Week at a Glance" will also be included, which contains homework, upcoming test, etc."
12. Parent Portal and Power-School
- Please make sure your information has been updated in Power-school.
- We want to ensure we have accurate numbers on file in case of emergencies.
- Also, please ensure you have access to Parent Portal so you are able to view grades live.
13. Spirit Fridays:

How can parents encourage healthy habits in children?
Choose foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean protein and dairy.
Don’t make the mistake of offering starches and sweets just because your child is currently rejecting the healthy choices you have on the table.
Remember that a healthy child will never starve himself. Research shows that children may need up to 15 exposures to a new food before they will eat it.
Offer a mix of new and familiar foods. Try to include at least one healthy food you know your child likes. Offer small portions of newer foods.
