After the Easter holidays, I will be returning to teach in Pearls class as Miss Bishell-Wells will be returning as Head teacher after her Maternity Leave. I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support whilst I have been Interim Head teacher. I hope you all have a lovely Easter break and I shall look forward to seeing you all after the holidays.
Thanks again

Pearls
This week Pearls children have been learning about Easter and associated customs. We have read ‘The Easter Story’, made Easter cards and decorated Easter biscuits. We have used our prepositional language (on, above, below, next to, on top of and underneath) to describe where our Easter chick was. We have also been singing our counting songs and looking for signs of Spring in our outside area.
Rubies
This week in Rubies we have been busy writing our own newspaper reports on how the animals in the ocean are being trapped by all the plastic. We decided it is our fault and we need to do something to stop it!
In Science we have continued our plant investigations and looked at how factors can affect the growth of some plants.
In Jigsaw we have been learning how to keep our bodies safe and clean by crossing the road safely and making sure we brush our teeth and wash our hair.
Have a wonderful Easter break and we will see you in two weeks for the start of a fun filled summer term!
The Rubies Team
Diamonds
The last few weeks have been very busy, with lots of new learning! We have learnt all about Rosa Parks, an American activist in the Civil Rights Movement, best known for her pivotal role in the 'Montgomery Bus Boycott' and Martin Luther King Jr. also an activist until his assassination in 1968. Children have learnt the meanings of new words, such as ‘segregation’ and we have had amazing, detailed discussions.
In English we have been persuasive writers, writing leaflets to encourage everyone to visit a country of the children’s choice within Africa. In Maths, we have been consolidating our learning from the past term. During our Geography lessons, we have learnt about the culture of the Maasai Mara and made comparisons to our culture.
This week, we were fortunate enough to be welcomed to Swinefleet Church, where we met Rev. Justine. We listened intently to details of the Easter Story and then Rev. Justine kindly answered lots of our questions. We’d like to thank her for having us.
Swimming has been fantastic and it’s an absolute pleasure to see the children progress each week! Lessons will continue on a Friday morning after Easter.
Finally, TT Rockstars – we have our first ROCK HERO!!! An unbelievable achievement indeed! We can already see the children competing with each other to be the next Rock Hero and get to the top spot in school.
A huge thank you to you all for your hard work this term. We hope that you have a fabulous Easter break and return refreshed and eager to learn for the summer term.
Sapphires
What a busy term this has been! Year 6 SATs preparations are well underway and Year 5 swimming is going very well.
The children have been focusing on the continent of Africa studying the human and physical geographical features. They produced a whole class art piece based on the artists Andy Warhol and Roy Liechtenstein. This theme has continued into their English lessons, writing a setting description based on an African country and a piece of poetry inspired by the author Kit Wright.
Maths this week has been tricky, with Year 5 focusing on timetables and how to read and interpret them, whilst Year 6 have been reading and interpreting pie charts.
In PE we have been focusing on aspects of dance, creating a piece to the song 'Sunchyme' by Dario G.
Wishing all you a happy Easter and looking forward to a busy summer term.
African Artefacts
Dr Alex Ombler, Curator at Goole Museum, visited Diamonds and Sapphires on Wednesday afternoon with his ‘African Artefacts’. We all had a lovely afternoon.
Menu
Cooking for Help the Homelezz
Rubies class cooked a meal for ‘Help the Homelezz’ on Thursday 27th April.
Friday Book Bags
Book bags will continue to be given out on Friday, we have loved seeing what each child has produced based on the book given. This is shared with the rest of the School on Friday morning's Celebration Assembly.
P.E
We ask that all children now attend school in uniform and bring P.E kit in a bag on a Monday, which should be kept in school all week. We will do our best to stick to our P.E timetable but sometimes it may be more suitable to change days so please ensure P.E kit is always in school and then taken home at the end of each week. Thank you.
P.E kit should be a white t-shirt, and black shorts or jogger bottoms in colder weather. Children can bring a hoodie/jumper for colder months which should be plain black/navy/ red or can be one of our school hoodies.
Please note that jewellery should not be worn for P.E due to Health and Safety reasons. If your child has their ears pierced then please help them to remove their earrings on a morning before school if possible on P.E days.

We would love to see anyone having a go so please feel free to share with us on Tapestry/Seesaw.
Seesaw and Tapestry
If your child is in Pearls (2 year Olds, Nursery and Reception) then we would love you to connect with us on Tapestry. Here we can share images and observations with yourselves as well as home learning opportunities. Reading can also be logged here.
Seesaw is our home learning platform for Years 1 to 6. Children can log their reading and also see other key information and home learning such as spellings.
If you are having problems connecting to either platform, please speak to a member of your child’s class team or email the office and we will be more than happy to help.
