Thank you to our parent volunteers and Craig Kobayashi (photographer) for organizing the sibling photo day! Wow - Nohl Canyon loves our siblings!! Nohl Canyon has 129 sets of siblings!!

Student Council is excited to host the 2nd annual March Madness Basketball Tournament for 4th-6th grade students! Students created their own 4 member team and will play in 3 v 3, half court games during the tournament.

22 total teams are in the tournament. The goal is for each team to play 3 round robin games that lead into a single elimination tournament (weather may limit the round robin games). All games take place at lunch time.

Spring Break Vacation is March 27th - March 31st. Students will return to school on Monday, April 3rd.

To increase school community connectedness, Nohl Canyon will begin hosting monthly morning meetings with our Counselor - Mrs. Pullin, and Principal - Mr. Jones. Each monthly meeting will incorporate a theme to support our families.

All meetings will take place from 8:30am - 9:30am in the TLC

APRIL 12th - Meet our Counselor! Mrs. Pullin will speak on her role, expectations, and the daily life of a school counselor.

MAY 10th - May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Conversation will incorporate strategies in supporting Mental Health Awareness.

Physical Fitness Testing - 5th Grade

• The state mandated Physical Fitness Testing for 5th, 7th and 9th grade students will take place February 27 - March 24. The Physical Fitness test includes the following assessments: Push-ups, Sit-ups, Flexibility, trunk lift, mile run. Please speak with your 5th grade teacher for any questions.

CAASPP - The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) is the state academic testing program. CAASPP is a system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career.

• CAASPP incorporates the Smarter Balanced Assessment Conscortium (SBAC), a standardized test consortium
• Students in 3rd - 8th grade, and 11th grade will take part in the SBAC.
• For Nohl Canyon, SBAC will take place May 8 - May 26

**** Please plan vacations and medical appointments around these dates (specifically 8-10 am each day)

• Students will be assessed in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. 5th grade students will also take the California Science Test

The Special Education Department is excited to host monthly one hour parent workshops! These workshops are geared toward offering support and strategies regarding a variety of topics, including:

Reminder to all parents - the Absence Hotline is available to leave a message when you know your child will be or is absent for the school day. Please make your absent call prior to 9:00 am on the day of the absence.

When calling, please leave your childs name, grade, and reason for absence

Nohl Canyon is beginning to see more students carrying their own cell phones. Please discuss with your child the guidelines for cell phones/communication devices (watches) while at school:

1) NO CELL from BELL to BELL - cell phones need to be turned OFF and stored in students backpack from first bell to dismissal bell.

2) Students who need to contact parents/guardians are expected to come to the front office to make the phone call.

3) Students who do not follow the guidelines:

1st occurrence: warning - expected to place phone back in backpack

2nd occurrence: cell phone confiscated - Parent Pick-up in office

The KIDS CORNER section of the newsletter will be a place to highlight our Roadrunner Students succeeding in outside activities. Nohl Canyon has a wide range of students in a variety of activities; Dance, Gymnastics, Equestrian, Cheer, Karate, Tennis, Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey..plus many more. If you would like to highlight your child, please send Mr. Jones a photo and description of your child(s).

Landon L.'s travel ball team went to a tournament in Arizona where they made it to the semi-finals and competed against teams from all over the U.S. They also are sponsored by Stance socks (makes socks for MLB players) and got to visit their AZ store for pictures and free socks. Congrats Landon!

NC Girls Scout Troop celebrates opening ceremonies at Orange Canyon Softball League

Our Girl Scout Troop went to the Priceless Pets Ranch and Learning Center in Chino Hills this weekend to deliver donations and learn all about the farm animals that were rescued and now live there.
