Students can benefit from an opportunity for academic support every Wednesday afternoon from 2:40pm – 4:15pm in the Learning Commons. Students are supported to complete their schoolwork learning in a supervised setting. Faculty and staff are available along with upper-class peer tutors (especially skilled in Mathematics). Students will identify their priorities (“What I Need” or “What’s Important Now”), create a plan for the most efficient use of their time, celebrate their accomplishments, and leave with a plan for continued success. New: MSHSL Post-Season Athletic Updates 2.11.24

Visit www.mshsl.org and click on “tournaments” for all of the post-season brackets, programs, ticket info etc.
Alpine Skiing: The Section Meet was held Tuesday at Buck Hill in 55 degree weather….great for April baseball/softball, but not so great for skiing. The Boys and Girls teams both battled hard despite the challenging conditions. The Boys placed 5th and were led by Riley Smith who placed 13th. The Girls placed 14th as a team and were led by Megan Young who placed and is STATEBOUND as an individual! Megan will compete at the State Alpine Meet on Tuesday, February 13th at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik.
Nordic Skiing: Congratulations to Tyler Mullin who along with his ISD 196 teammate from Apple Valley placed 2nd in the Team Sprint Competition and is STATEBOUND! Congrats also to the Eastview Girls Nordic Ski team on fighting through all sorts of adversity with snow conditions, illness etc, to be STATEBOUND for the 11th straight season! It was a roller coaster of emotions as results were tabulated and for a while thought they had not qualified, then thought they had won and then after protest and video review ended up in a first place tie! They lost the tiebreaker, but the top two teams advance to State! After 7 kids racing a total of 10K each it came down to less than one second…..never seen anything like it! The Girls were led by Emily Percival (3rd Overall), Liza Kerndt (9th Overall) and Morgan Brown (12th overall) and the amazing Team Sprint Finish of Evie Swenson and Noelle Wanken who were Section Champs! The team now qualifies to participate in the State Nordic Ski Meet on Wednesday, February 14th and Thursday, February 15th at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik.
Girls’ Hockey: The girls’ hockey team season came to an end on Wednesday evening with a 7-2 loss at Apple Valley. The final score was definitely not reflective of how well the team battled from start to finish as they ended up outshooting the Eagles. Their season ends with a record of 12-13-1.
Competition Cheer: Congratulations to the Varsity Comp Cheer Team coached by Tim and Mario Navarro who competed this weekend at the UCA National Championships. Despite an overall great performance, the deduction from one stunt falling was too much to overcome and the team did not advance in the competition. Congrats to all of our comp cheer athletes and coaches on a great season!
Dance Team: The Lightning Dance Team competed with 11 other teams in the Section 1AAA High Kick and Jazz Tournaments last evening in front of a full house at Bloomington Kennedy High School. They have now qualified for state 26 years in a row……every single year since Eastview has been open! Congrats to all athletes and coaches on another amazing season and good luck at State!
Gymnastics: The Lightning Gymnasts will host the 3AA Section Championships here at Eastview on Friday, February 17th. As a result the Main Gym will not be available for use all day on Feb. 17. Wrestling: The Girls Individual Wrestling Sections were held this weekend in Redwood Falls! The number of girls wrestling in the MSHSL has continued to explode across the state. Jannelle Mendez and Caitlyn Tighe both earned 3rd Place honors! Elsie Olson lost in the finals and earned 2nd Place and is STATEBOUND. Riley Myers repeated as Section CHAMPION and is STATEBOUND to the Minnesota Girls State Wrestling Tournament on Friday, March 1st and Saturday, March 2nd at Xcel Center! Congrats to the Eastview Girls Wrestlers on a great second season of competition! The remainder of the Eastview Wrestling Team will compete in the Section 2AAA Tournament. GIRLS HOCKEY
Eastview Girls Varsity Hockey
The girls hockey season came to an end on Wednesday, February 7th. The team fought hard and never gave up, but unfortunately came up short losing to Apple Valley 7-2. Eastview got off to a good start with Sari Cords scoring 23 seconds into the game assisted by Ella Schaefer. Apple Valley tied it up about five minutes later on a power play goal and the first period ended 1-1. Apple Valley got a couple of early goals in the second period to go up 3-1, but Erin Hayward scored a goal assisted by Sari Cords with just over three minutes left in the period to make it 3-2 heading into the third. Unfortunately, the Lightning were unable to get any more goals in the third to make a comeback and Apple Valley put a few more in the net.
Eastview finished the season with an overall record of 12-13-1. Thank you to the seniors (Brynn Dihel, Meredith Droege, Ellie Groebner, Lila Hanson, and Erin Hayward) for a great season and a great career, you will be greatly missed!
BOYS HOCKEY
Lightning Beat Lakeville North, Move Ahead of Rosemount in Conference Standings
Eastview's boys varsity hockey team scored a season-high three power-play goals and defeated Lakeville North 5-2 on Saturday, February 10. After North took a 1-0 lead in the first period, Sophomore Forward Sam Wooten scored an even-strength goal at 3:33 of the second to tie things up. Senior Forward Jordan Brothers then scored a power-play goal at 11:05 of the second, but the Panthers scored 15 seconds later to tie the game.
Senior Forward Billy Downs scored a power-play goal at 1:25 of the third period, taking a pass from Senior Forward Caleb Nelson and ripping the puck so hard that North’s goalie had to check his equipment for damage. Seven minutes later, with Eastview again on the power play, Senior Defenseman Brayden Kaldenbach fired a blast from the point that deflected off Senior Forward Cam Roth into the net. North pulled its goalie with over three minutes to play, but Zach Wooten used his speed and a quick stick to steal the puck and finish the scoring with an empty net goal. With Rosemount losing to Shakopee on the same day, Eastview regained sole possession of second place in the South Suburban Conference. The Lightning play Apple Valley/Burnsville at the Apple Valley Sports Arena on Tuesday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m.
Lightning Beat Rosemount, Regain Second Place in South Suburban Conference Race
Senior Goalie Gabe Otis stopped 39 of 40 shots and senior forwards Jordan Brothers and Zach Wooten scored goals to lead the Eastview boys varsity hockey team to a hard fought 2-1 victory over Rosemount on Tuesday, February 6. Brothers got the Lightning started at 4:33 of the first period when he tipped in a low blast from the right point by Senior Defenseman Kevin Woehler. Rosemount tied the game at 9:00 minutes of the second, but the Lightning responded with a fierce forecheck that kept the Irish pinned in their defensive zone for nearly three minutes. With Irish defenders gasping for breath, Brothers found Wooten alone in the right circle, where he fired the puck past Rosemount’s goalie for the eventual game winner. Although the Irish pulled their goalie with 1:51 to go in the game, Eastview withstood the 6-5 skater advantage and defeated Rosemount by a single goal for the second time this season. Outshot 40-23 and penalized eight times, the Lightning reclaimed a share of second place in the conference with three games remaining in the regular season. Next up for Eastview will be Lakeville North at Ames Arena on Saturday, February 10 at 1:00 p.m.
Last Tuesday, the Eastview Boys JV Hockey Team faced Rosemount. The team played well against the Irish but could not get on the board. Rosemount took advantage of their power play opportunities and scored twice, winning 0 to 2. Zach Wakefield had a strong game and blocked 34 shots.
This past Saturday, the Lightning headed to Lakeville to play the Panthers. Eastview got an early 2 to 0 lead with the first goal from Shane Klein and assists from Cal Fritche and Derrick Zackery. The second goal came from Liam O’Donnell with an assist from Wesley Schoenwetter. Lakeville North answered back with a power play goal to end the first period 2 to 1. The Panthers tied it up early in the 2nd period and the score remained 2 to 2 through the 2nd. Lakeville North got their second power play goal as well as a full-strength goal in the 3rd period to make their lead 4 to 2. Towards the end of the game, Eastview pulled the goalie to get an extra attacker but were unable to score. Ty Young played well and stopped 18 shots. The Eastview Boys Hockey Team faces Apple Valley/Burnsville tonight at the Apple Valley Sports Arena. JV start time is 5pm.
