Character Word of the Month - Be Accountable
Gator Ways to show that you are accountable:
- Accountable students collaborate with others, ask for help when needed, and use all the resources available to take responsibility for themselves and their learning.
- Accountable students are willing to take responsibility and ensure what they have agreed to do is done.
- Accountable students appreciate but do not expect a pat on the back for the responsibility they have taken. They are satisfied because they have kept their word and done their best!

Managing Student Anxiety with Resilient Health
What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is a mental and physical reaction to perceived threats. In small doses, anxiety is helpful, protecting us from danger. But when anxiety is too severe, or occurs too frequently, it can become debilitating.
How to support your student:
Don't try to eliminate anxiety. The best way to help kids overcome anxiety is to help them learn to tolerate it as well as they can. Over time the anxiety will diminish.
Anxiety can be a useful emotion, notes Grace Berman, LCSW, a licensed clinical social worker at the Child Mind Institute. For example, when we're crossing the street and a car comes, speeding toward us, anxiety is what gets us out of the way. For kids with anxiety disorders, it can be important to realize the difference between helpful and unhelpful anxiety. "I'll often use the metaphor of an overactive fire alarm - sometimes they go off when there actually isn't a fire," she explains. "Treatment is about recalibrating our anxiety alarms so that we're listening to our anxiety in dangerous situations, and also learning when anxiety isn't helpful and ways to manage this."
Biz Town
This Thursday, Goodman’s fifth-graders experienced a hard day of work on a field trip at JA Biztown. The Biztown simulation encompasses life as an adult by teaching students personal finance, economics, interview skills, responsibilities of a good citizen and the cooperation it takes to be successful in the work place. Students spent a month learning about all these topics in class and then got to interview for jobs such as: Mayor, CEO, CFO, manager, and much more. During the day of the field trip, students worked in town to complete tasks within their business to pay off their “business loan” by the end of the “work day”. Goodman paid off 13 of 17 business loans during the simulation! We are so proud of the hard work and teamwork of our fifth graders at Biztown and look forward to taking all our future fifth graders in the coming years.
Good News Gators Assembly
Wonder Walk - Japanese Folk Music
Third graders did a wonder walk to begin their unit on Japanese Folk Music. They rotated around the room to read informational text about Japan, and then noted things they noticed or wondered!
CEF Grant Winner
The Woo Hoo Patrol came out to Congrate one of our 6th grade teachers, Ms. Rawlings. She was awarded a CEF Grant to implement Classcraft in her classroom. Classcraft is designed to resemble a game-like experience, where students earn points for their good behaviors and have unique powers they can use to influence real life.
It helps make students feel empowered, work together, and develop soft skills while speaking a language that they understand and that matters to them.
Here's how it works:
- Each student has a character in Classcraft that represents them and their progress
- When students meet expectations, they'll get Experience Points (and sometimes Gold Pieces)
- By earning enough Experience Points, student level up, earning rewards both in Classcraft and in real life (because their powers take effect in real life!)

Tax Credit Basics…
A tax credit donation is a full refund, not a deduction. Contributions eligible for a tax credit are donated directly to schools, not to the state or school district. To participate or learn more, follow the link listed below to donate online or you can complete the enclosed form and submit your contribution at your convenience.

Arizona Law ARS 43-1089.01 enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400.00 per year if filing status is “Married, filing Joint Return;” $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is “Single of Head of Household;” and $200 per calendar year if filing status is “Married filing separate returns.” These contributions fund extracurricular activities in public schools and greatly impact our school community and our students.
