The Hillsboro Hops would like to remind you that our Dream Big Scholarship, geared towards graduating high school Seniors, is now accepting applications. The Dream Big Scholarship will be a one-time $2,000 award to a first generation college student (neither parent/guardian with a 4 year degree). Applications are now open and can be accessed via the link below and will close on March 5th at 11:59pm. More details on the criteria and other requirements can be found via the link below.

This is a wonderful scholarship available to SBHS seniors. 13 Barlow students will win this scholarship worth $2000 x 4 years. The focus of this award is to recognize students who "work hard." This can be shown in a wide variety of ways. The scholarship is a two-part exercise. The first is to do the online application which goes directly to US Bank. The second part is to provide the optional 10 pages of exhibits to show your work ethic. This portion goes to: neuenschwander@gresham.k12.or.us. Oregon State University’s College of Pharmacy Early Assurance Program application is open until April 1st! This program is available to high school seniors who are planning to enroll in a college or university in fall 2023 (it doesn’t have to be OSU) and who may be interested in pursuing a Pharm.D. degree through Oregon State University and Oregon Health and Science University’s joint program following undergrad.

With so much to learn and do, now is the time to attend a ECMC College Nights Event.

SBHS will be hosting this informative event, targeting juniors but open to all ages, on Tuesday, April 25th at 6pm. Get this on your calendar! One student in attendance will win a $1000 scholarship to use at the school of their choice.

Subjects to be discussed:

1)Why obtain education beyond high school

2) How to choose your education path

3) How to apply for financial aid and pay for college

4) What steps you can take now to plan for college

Make a plan, ask questions, have refreshments, win a scholarship! We hope to see students and families there. Register at this link.

Our green science teacher is coordinating with the C&CC to take 4 classes to tour Bonneville Dam and learn about hydro-power, fish cycles, and how our environment is impacted by our dam systems. We split our visits between March 21st and 23rd. Permission slips need to be completed and returned ASAP. Transportation is provided and we will be making a lunch stop.

Watch for more details regarding this great opportunity to see engineering projects created by OSU students. The public is invited to attend.

To receive the free Oregon Promise funds, seniors must submit their FAFSA or ORSAA and the Oregon Promise application by JUNE 1. If you miss that date, you forfeit between $4000 and $8000, for use at an Oregon Community College, forever.

To be eligible, you must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA and have submitted the application.

!9 students completed the ASVAB Career Exploration Test/Program earlier in February. Due to the snow days, we have moved the completion of the test and results to March 8th at 1:00 pm in the library.

On Friday, March 24th, from 6:00-8:00pm, CPT Richard Mendoza, the Far West Admissions Officer at West Point, will host an in-person briefing at the National Guard Armory in Clackamas. Students, parents, guidance counselors, and others interested in West Point are welcome.

CPT Mendoza will discuss life as a Cadet at West Point and the early career of a US Army Officer. He’ll also discuss the admissions process and there will a question and answer session following the formal briefing.

There will also be local Oregon volunteers in attendance to help with any questions you may have.

On March 9th from 8:30 am to 2:15 pm, Academic Advantage is holding a medical career symposium at MHCC. Medical career guest speakers will share their experiences in school and their daily practice. Students can sign up to attend. Transportation and lunch are provided.
