Shelbyville High School Newsletter
July 25, 2022
WELCOME BACK!
I hope you have all had a restful and rejuvenating summer! It is an honor to introduce myself to the school community as the new principal of Shelbyville High School. In addition to my role as principal, I serve first and foremost as a wife and mother. This year, my daughter Ellie will be entering 8th grade and my son Joey will be entering 6th grade. My husband, Scot, is also an educator, teaching math and serving as the head wrestling coach at New Palestine High School.
I am currently entering my nineteenth year of education. Prior to becoming the principal here, I was the Associate Principal at New Palestine High School for three years. I was also an assistant principal in Rush County at both the high school and junior high school for five years. Additionally, I served as an English teacher for ten years at Beech Grove High School and Southport High School.
To students and families, I can’t wait to meet all of you! Our staff has been hard at work this summer preparing for the upcoming school year. I am looking forward to many exciting things here at Shelbyville High School.
Enjoy the last week of summer!
Sincerely,
Amy Dawson

Good News ~ Schedules are up and available to view on PowerSchool!!
The timeline for schedule changes is as follows:
During the first week of a school semester students may change their schedules only with the written approval of the teacher of the current course, the teacher of the new course, a counselor, and a parent.
The reasons for schedule changes are as follows:
1. To meet a graduation requirement (i.e., make up a failed course)
2. To meet a documented college admission requirement. (Written documentation must be provided.)
3. A medical reason verified by a detailed, written medical doctor’s report.
4. By teacher recommendation that the class is inappropriate for the student.
After the first week of a school semester, students may change their schedules only with the written approval of the student services
team, 504 committee, and/or special education conference committee. Anyone who wishes to change classes without written approval
or a student who is removed from a class for disciplinary reasons will receive a "WF" for the course for the semester. A "WF" is
considered to be a 50% and this failing grade will figure into the GPA as a credit attempted.
*Only one (1) study hall is permitted per semester.
**Please note that requests for specific teachers, lunch periods, and teacher changes will not be honored unless severe,
extenuating circumstances are presented to the principal. Communication involving parents, student, and teacher is
encouraged.

The following are examples of clothing or items that are considered to be inappropriate: Clothing that is designed to reveal students’ bare midriff, chest, back, buttocks, undergarments, or the lack of undergarments.
2. Dress should reflect respect for others- Clothing that advertises, promotes, or glorifies the use of alcohol, tobacco, illegal substances, weapons or gang affiliation is not permissible. Clothing that is demeaning to race, religion, or sex (gender identity) is not permitted. Clothing that contains writing, slogans, pictures or symbols that might cause misunderstanding, or relay vulgar suggestion is not permissible.
