Be Safe, Be Smart, and Be Kind
Since 2016, District 47 has been teaching students how to Be Safe, Be Smart, and Be Kind online through a student-led, digital citizenship program called Project B3. Approximately 30-40 eighth graders from each middle school are selected to participate in this program each fall and are tasked with preparing and delivering presentations for their middle school peers in November and for D47 elementary students (grades 3-5) in the spring.
Starting the week of November 13th, student B3 leaders will present their digital citizenship program to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders at their respective schools. Topics covered will include screen time, online safety, digital literacy, cyberbullying and creating a healthy digital footprint.

Jackie Rhew Virtual Parenting Sessions
District 47 will be hosting a four-part virtual parenting series for D47 parents and guardians starting November 15th. In this first virtual session, Jacqueline will lead an interactive discussion around interventions and strategies to promote active school engagement. There will be a special emphasis placed on supporting students who have struggled with mental health, medical, or pain management concerns, leading to issues with attendance, work completion, and building healthy relationships in the school environment.
Parents will:
be prompted to self-reflect on beliefs and mindsets, especially how personal reactions can impact the confidence, motivation, and engagement of their children.
gain strategies to respond to and assess their child’s needs.
learn interventions in the home setting that promote school attendance and engagement.
review obstacles and barriers to active school engagement.
Click the links below for more information about this and future virtual parenting sessions. Translation will be available. Note: The Zoom link for the 12/15 session will be included in the 11/14 newsletter and on the district website calendar.

Winter Weather Reminder
As we transition from fall to winter, we encourage families to consider the impact of a school closure due to inclement weather. It is our goal to keep schools open when possible to ensure we meet the needs of all students and, most importantly, to avoid a disruption to teaching and learning. Please note: There will be no remote learning if school is closed due to weather conditions. Instead, the day would be made up at the end of the year in one of the five scheduled emergency days on the school calendar. If the decision is made to close school, families will be notified via phone call, text and email. We do our best to make the call before 5 a.m. the day of the closing. The announcement will also be posted on the district’s website and social media channels. No communication means school will remain open. Please be sure to keep your contact information and

We are excited to share that The Break is partnering with District 47 to provide a safe place for our students to have fun, connect and find acceptance in their after school program. Transportation will be available after school. We are limited to 20 spots daily (until The Break is able to expand this service). As a result, all 3 middle schools will have a daily sign up sheet (much like the activity bus sign up but this will be shared among all 3 middle schools). This will be a first come, first serve basis.
Families will need to enroll their child at The Break.

Step 2: RSVP on the home page The BREAK Home Page RSVP For Day/Event Would Like To Join
