ASA G. HILLIARD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
I have never encountered any children in any group who are not geniuses. There is no mystery on how to teach them. The first thing you do is treat them like human beings and the second thing you do is love them. -Asa Hilliard

District Food Reminder
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the upcoming holidays, it is important to remind parents and families that candy, desserts, baked goods, or any other edible items are not to be sold or distributed at school or on the bus unless approved in advance by the school administration. Per our Student Code of Conduct, students who do not adhere to this expectation are subject to disciplinary action for violation 7A: Failure to Follow Rules and all candy or food items will be confiscated. Please discuss this expectation and possible consequences with your student(s) as this will be taken very seriously. This is due to recent National and State reports about students sharing edible items and synthetic medications that have been shared with other students that contain very harmful substances.
Please know that taking this measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by another person, anything that they have not brought from your home or anything not in its original sealed package.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping all of our students safe at school!

Literacy Parent Units
As you know, parent involvement is vital to your child’s academic success, which is why I am so excited to introduce a new learning tool to help enhance what is being taught in the classroom. Over the course of the school year, we will be unveiling a series of parent units for you to complete so you are better able to help support early literacy development at home.
These self-paced experiences, called Parent Units, are no more than 20 minutes from start to finish to complete. In the units, an easy-to-replicate strategy is provided for you to use at home. Each Parent Unit will launch monthly one at a time and will focus on different topics. We are kicking off the series with Unit 1 focusing on Oral Language.
I encourage you to take the time to complete these fun learning units, which can be found at the bottom of our school’s website and on the district website https://www.fultonschools.org/parentunits. Plus, parents will have the opportunity to earn a certificate for completing each unit!
Thank you for sharing your student with us. We look forward to partnering with you to give them the best education Fulton County Schools has to offer.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Bullying Prevention Month is a nationwide call to action around educating communities to their roles in bullying prevention and to educate and raise awareness of bullying prevention. Everyone can share in the efforts to Stop Bullying and Stand Up for Kindness.
Fulton County and the Office of Student Supports are excited to recognize October as National Bullying Prevention Month and October 23rd-31st as Red Ribbon Week. We will kick off the month of October on Monday, October 2nd by encouraging all staff and students to WEAR ROYAL BLUE and #FCSBEKIND.

MORNING ARRIVAL
Morning arrival is 7:00 am-7:40 am. Students arriving after 7:40 am will be marked tardy as the instructional day begins promptly at 7:40 am. Breakfast is available from 7:10 am-7:35 am. We do not have staff members on campus to monitor students prior to 7:10 am. Students should not be dropped off prior to 7:10 am.
Parents are asked to use the designated car rider loop for morning drop-off. Students should be released from the vehicle quickly and will be escorted by staff members into the building. Please be cautious of other students exiting from their parents’ vehicles and our staff members.
TARDY ARRIVAL
Any student that arrive tardy must have a parent/guardian come in to the front lobby to sign them in. Please refrain from allowing students to exit the vehicle prior to you coming to sign them in. This is for the safety of our students and to ensure all students are accounted for properly.
TRACK THE BUS
Parents/guardians of students should download and use the Here Comes the Bus application. This application will give real-time information on your child's bus location.
