Congratulations to Mrs. Jones and the entire cast and crew of Shrek the Musical. Their time and energy paid off in a huge way with excellent performances this past Thursday and Friday. Costumes, songs, fairy tale creatures and dancing brought the journey of Shrek and Fiona to life in such a fun and exciting way. Bravo to everyone involved in the production.

Congratulations also to all of our Perquimans County School Foundation scholarship recipients. There were many Seniors recognized this past Monday night for their outstanding accomplishments over the past four years. The list and pictures of winners can be found on our school Facebook page. Great job to all the recipients.

Anyone interested in trying out for Color Guard should plan to attend tryouts this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after school. Please contact Mr. Copeland if you have any questions.

We have a busy but short week coming up at PCHS:

Monday - Color Guard tryouts will take place after school. Golf will play at home and JV Baseball will play at Washington County.

Tuesday - Color Guard tryouts will take place after school. Golf will play at Hertford County. Softball and Varsity Baseball will play at Riverside High School in Williamston.

Wednesday - Color Guard tryouts will take place after school. Track will run at Riverside and Women's Soccer will host Washington High School.

Thursday - We will host Special Olympics Fun Day for all Perquimans County Schools Olympians. JV Baseball will host Washington County. Soccer will play at Northeastern. Softball will host Riverside High School.

Friday - Students and staff will not report on this day as Friday marks the beginning of Spring Break. Varsity Baseball will host Riverside High School.

Saturday - Softball will play in the Easter Tournament in Edenton. Varsity Baseball will play in the Easter Tournament at Gates County.

As a reminder the week of April 18-22 is Spring Break. We will not have school these days.

Students we only have 33 instructional days left in the school year before testing begins. Your attendance and your attention in class are key to your success. Let's have a great week and finish the year well.

Attention Students> Have you written a poem expressing yourself? Have you read a poem that genuinely expresses how you feel and/or think? We need you to share the poem at the public library, April 28, 5:30-6:30, for "Expressing Ourselves through Poetry!" Please stop by Mr. Fipps or Ms. Sutton's room to sign up. Football> There will be an informational football meeting in the Health room on Wednesday during WIN time. Anyone who plans on playing needs to be there to receive information about spring ball and summer schedule.

Opportunity from ECU> We are excited to announce a new College of Education recruitment initiative designed to create a pipeline of high school students who are interested in becoming a teacher. The ECU COE Future Teachers of NC program, branded as PIRATE (Pirate Institute for Rural Aspiring Teacher Educators) is a free two-day program that will offer rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors an opportunity to learn about teacher education programs at ECU. Please share this information with your students who are interested in becoming a teacher and others within your networks as appropriate.

During the program, participants will interact with current ECU teacher education students and faculty and staff. Participants will learn about college life at ECU, explore the field of education through engaging and innovative activities and make meaningful relationships with peers. The program dates are May 20-21, 2022 and will run from 9:30am-3:30pm each day.

Spots are limited and the deadline to apply is April 29, 2022. Applicants will be notified of their application status once all applications have been received and reviewed. * PCS Foundation hosted it's Scholarship Night and handed out $125,000 in scholarships to members of the Class of 2022 (see below for details)...way to go Seniors!!!

* Spring Break will begin on April 15, 2022 and end on April 24, 2022.

* Prom will be held on April 30, 2022. Tickets can be purchased from Mrs. Russell before or after school each day this week.

* AP US History Exam will be given on May 6th.

* Job Fair for Seniors will be held on May 6th at the parks and recreation center from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Students will be taken to the job fair by bus on this day.

* Athletic Awards Banquet will be held on May 31st.

* Baccalaureate will be held on June 1st.

* Final Exams will be given the week of June 6-10.

* Graduation practice is June 8th at 1:30 PM. Graduation tickets will be given out this day. Attendance is mandatory for all Seniors.

* Graduation is June 10th on the football field at PCHS.

Students Reading to Students> Any student interested in reading to Preschoolers at the public library on April 19 at 11:00, please stop by Ms. Sutton's room, B107 to sign up.

Prom> Prom tickets are now on sale. The prom will be held on April 30 and tickets are $35 per person until the end of March and then the price will be $40 per person. Please see Mrs. Russell before or after school to purchase tickets.

Pirate Chest> Need a gorgeous prom dress or some dancing shoes? Stop by the Pirate Chest or Ms. Sutton's Room, B107, 12:15-12:45 to find the right dress for Prom 2022!

Junior Docet Summer Workshop> Great summer opportunity for students ages 13-17 that are interested in History, or looking for an opportunity to develop skills in leadership, time management and public speaking. Junior Docent are trained to participate in family and children’s programming.

There will be a Junior Docent workshop on June 17, 2022; from 10 AM to 3 PM. Registration is required to participate in this event. The deadline to sign up for this workshop is June 13, 2022

* Athletic Department> Free Annual Sports Physicals will be held at the high school for students on May 11th and May 12th from 9:00-1:00 during the school day. If your child is interested in playing a sport for the 22-23 school year, please pick up a physical form from Ms. Amanda or Coach Roberson to be filled out and returned back to them by April 25th. Once your child turns in the physical, they will be given an appointment time for when they will be called out of their class on May 11th or 12th for their free physical. Please contact Ms. Amanda Lankford with any questions.

CFNC is happy to present our first series entitled “Representation Matters.” This is a free series of programs offered on April 12, 13, and 26 designed to offer career and college information to Black and African American males. While all ages are invited to attend these, they will have different focuses. Please find the flyers attached (with registration information) and more information below.

April 12 at 2pm: Representation Matters: Career Exploration for Young Black and African American Males. This program will highlight underrepresented careers, and give attendees a chance to talk with Black and African American men working in these careers. Represented on the panel are: logistics, education, veterinary science, music production, and barbering. This would be a great program for high school and college students alike!

April 13 at 10am: Representation Matters: Making Connections on College Campuses for Young Black and African American Males. This program will highlight resources on college campuses, including career resources and cultural centers. This program is open to all, but will have a focus on current college students. We will have panel members from NCSU, UNC Asheville, NCCU, and Cape Fear Community College.

April 26 at 6pm: Representation Matters: Preparing Young Black and African American Males for College. This program is geared towards current high school students, and will have a panel of folks from CFNC, as well as counselors and advisors from various high schools across the state. We’ll discuss preparing for college, and answer all the questions attendees may have!
