Grade 7 and 8 LEAP VIA Convocation
On Thursday, 7th and 8th grade LEAP students attended the VIA (Valley Interdisciplinary Approach) Convocation, where they collaborated in mixed teams from participating Northern Valley schools. This year's theme was "The Mysterious Disappearance of Naomi." First, team members created a team logo. Next, their challenge was introduced: Naomi Via DeWolf welcomed students to her soiree and then was kidnapped! Students then applied their wits to solve problems, decipher cryptograms, and compete to earn the combinations to a Breakout Edu lockbox. It was a great opportunity for students to work together and hone their problem-solving skills.

NVOT's Heroes and Cool Kids
The NVOT Heroes and Cool Kids Club visited with the Grade 6 students on Monday, February 12th to discuss important issues that students face today. It was shocking to hear that 85% of bullying happens in front of other students, identified as "bystanders." They also shared that there are 160,000 students worldwide who do not want to attend school due to bullying. The NVOT students included a step-by-step process that students should follow if they are being cyberbullied.
Step 1: STOP- Do not respond!
Step 2: SAVE- Save the messages so that you have proof.
Step 3: BLOCK- Do not allow the person to continue to bully you, and your accounts should always be private!
Step 4: TELL- Tell a trusted friend or adult!
Grade 6 Science
The students in Mr. Johnson's science classes have been learning about sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks. This week, they used a hand lens to explore the characteristics of different types of rocks. The students were able to identify important elements such as the rocks' sediments, texture, and more!
Congratulations!
Congratulations to 7th-grade flute student Yunji Noh for being accepted into the North Jersey Region Honors Band. Over 400 7th, 8th, and 9th grade band students attended the auditions on Saturday, including 83 flute students competing for 16 spots. Awesome job Yunji! Thank you for representing CDW so well!
