The MMS Wolf Call

September 2, 2022
It was great to see so many of our students and families at our Wolf PRIDE nights this week. We wanted to reach out one last time before the start of the school year in hopes to make the first week go as smoothly as possible for all!
We can’t wait to see all of our Wolves Tuesday!

Drop Off & Pick Up
Our parking area and drop off lanes were updated as part of our construction project. The new loop will increase queuing space and help us relieve some of the back up on the 199th and increase safety for students and families during this busy time of day.
We will have staff outside helping direct traffic for the first few weeks of school. Please also refer to our Drop Off/Pick Up Route Map and the accompanying video.
Remember- even if students are going to the gym, they should remain in the car until you’ve reached the top of the loop near the flagpole. This allows us to maximize our space in the lot and keep everyone moving.
First Day of School for 6th Grade
6th grade students will meet in the Main Gym on the first day of school. At 7:20 we will line students up by their first period class and walk them to their teacher’s classroom.
What does the time before school look like on the first day for 6th Grade?
- Students are greeted by staff and welcomed into the gym.
- Students will pick up a fresh copy of their schedule and then wait in the bleachers until we begin releasing students to class.
- Students wanting to eat breakfast will be directed to the commons after they pick up their schedule where they can eat and then return to the gym.
Parents- we know transitioning to middle school can feel very different. Unlike in elementary, students will walk into the gym on their own. There will be staff all around to help them find their way and in no time, they will feel at home here at Mountain View.
What does the remainder of the day look like for 6th grade?
- After being walked to their 1st period class, students will begin community building activities to get to know their teachers and classmates.
- Students will receive their chromebooks and chargers and practice logging in, creating a new password for the year- etc.
- Later in the day, students will meet with our 7th & 8th Grade ASB students for a student to student “Q &A” as well as a tour.
- After lunch- students will go through the entire schedule including their Encore (elective) classes. See detailed bell schedule below.

Construction Update
Cell Phones and Other Personal Electronic Devices (PED)
Cell phones/airpods should be off and put away in your child’s backpack or in a secure location during the school day. The only time students will be allowed to check phones will be before the first bell rings for the day, during lunch, or after school.
We expect students to be engaged, active learners who have their phones/airpods off and out of sight during the school day–this includes classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, the office, etc. Having cell phones put away during the school day will reduce distractions for students while increasing student participation and face-to-face social interactions with their peers.
Parents/guardians, if you need to get an urgent message to your child during a time other than lunch, please call our main office at 253-891-5200.
Visiting MMS During School Hours
All exterior doors will be locked during school hours. For the safety of our students and staff, our district is implementing new security measures at our main entrance. ALL visitors (parents, guardians, guests) MUST use our main entrance when visiting MMS. Please be prepared for the new security measures when you visit MMS during school hours. Our office staff will be asking for ID if you are picking up a child.
Health Procedures
- For the health and safety of all, students should stay home when:
- symptoms of sickness or illness are present (fever, cough, loss of taste/smell, nausea, etc)
- student has recently tested positive for COVID-19 and has been directed to self-isolate
- Call our main office at 253-891-5200 and ask to speak to Chad Davidson (Assistant Principal), Joelle Atkins (Attendance Secretary) or Angela Saez (School Nurse)
- Masks - masks are optional to wear at school. MMS will provide masks for students at our main entrances.
