Chapel of the Cross Faith & Family
Family Bible time for the week of Feb. 21-February 27
Welcome to Chapel's Faith & Family!
Whom do you trust?
One year after the exodus, the Israelites put up the tabernacle according to God’s instructions. A month later, God had His people start preparations to leave Sinai—they were headed to the Promised Land! Later that month, the cloud over the tabernacle went up, and the Israelites followed, beginning the journey from Sinai to Canaan. God was in the cloud that led the people, but even with that visible sign of His presence, the people doubted and complained. Would this generation ever learn to trust the Lord? When they arrived in Canaan, Moses sent out twelve spies to check out the land. They came back with a mixed report: the land was incredible, but the inhabitants were huge. Ten out of twelve spies concluded there was no way they could take the land. The people rioted, God was angered, Moses interceded, God relented. But the damage was done. That generation, except for Joshua and Caleb, would not see the Promised Land.
Opening Prayer
Dear God, You have shown that You are trustworthy. Help us put our trust in You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Talk about it
- What did the spies see in the new land?
- What did the scared spies say?
- What did Joshua and Caleb say?
- How did God punish the people for not trusting Him to lead them safely into the Promised Land?
The spies saw good food and big strong people living in the Promised Land.
Ten of the spies were afraid. They didn’t think they were strong enough to fight and win against the people in the land. They even suggested going back to Egypt!
Joshua and Caleb said they should go into the land and they trusted that God would give them victory.
God told the people they would wander in the wilderness for forty years. Only their children would one day enter the Promised Land. But God would still be with them and take care of them. Joshua and Caleb, who trusted in God, would also enter the Promised Land.
We can trust God. He loves us and promises to take care of us. He sent Jesus to be our Savior. He will always do what is best for us.

Dear Lord God, you are the one true God—the same God who kept His promise and delivered Moses and the Israelites, the same God who kept Your promise and sent Jesus to be our Savior. Thank You, Lord, that I can trust You above all else. In Your name we pray, Jesus. Amen.
