Cindy Cihak also helped me present at a District Learning Day for Knox County. It was powerful to have a classroom teacher's perspective when presenting to fellow teachers!
Rachel, Cindy, and David are exemplary teachers, and it has been a pleasure to work with each of them this year. Thank you again for all you do daily for your students. I appreciate how you push every student to their fullest potential!

Grade Level Updates & Activities:
Second Grade
This month our 2nd graders are going to have fun working on two different math lessons. In one lesson that we call Emoji Math, students are learning how to solve algebraic picture puzzles! Students get a chance to use their critical thinking to determine the value of each image in the puzzles. Have fun with the example picture puzzle. Our second Math lesson is a fun math activity where students have to use addition with money to determine if they can afford an ice cream cone at an ice cream shop with a budget of $2.00. During this lesson, the students will be introduced to a Brace Thinking Map.

Third Grade
This month our GT 3rd graders will be working on a lesson called “It’s Okay to Not Be Perfect”. In this lesson, students will learn how failure can contribute to success through the story, The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes. We will be looking at the main character (Beatrice), her character traits, and making connections to our 3rd grade GT Competency.
3rd Grade Activity
Fourth Grade
One of the lessons that your 4th graders will be working on in February is a math lesson where the students will not only be practicing interpreting remainders with division, but they will also be practicing their self-management skills through learning the importance of note-taking and how to take notes.

Fifth Grade
In February, our 5th-grade GT students will be working through a fun Valentine’s module where students will learn about the history, traditions, and mythology of the holiday. Students will also read about how Saint Valentine advocated for people and make connections to how Martin Luther King advocated during the Civil Rights Movement.
