North Syracuse Central School District's weekly e-news
Issue #37 | October 15, 2021
Hello North Syracuse Central School District Parents, Guardians, Teachers and Staff!
For the month of October, mental health professionals across the District are working with students on an anti-bullying campaign. As you scroll through this week's newsletter, you will find some resources that I encourage you to check out to learn more. Bullying can negatively impact a child's access to education and lead to serious and devastating consequences.
The District condemns and prohibits all forms of discrimination, such as harassment, hazing and bullying on school grounds, on school buses, at school bus pick-up sites, and at all school sponsored activities, programs and events.
As the month continues, we will be sharing pictures of the great things that our schools are doing to combat bullying. Thank you for being our partners in prevention. Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Daniel D. Bowles, Superintendent of Schools
Lakeshore Road Elementary Students Learn Fire Safety from Experts
October is Fire Safety Month and this week, students at Lakeshore Road Elementary School had the opportunity to learn about the topic from some local experts. Each year, firefighters with the South Bay Fire Department in Cicero take time to come to LRE to teach kindergarten and first grade students about fire prevention. The professionals arrive at the school in their uniforms and give demonstrations with their trucks and equipment.
On Saturday, October 9, Team C-NS Chorus participated in “Out of the Darkness” suicide prevention walk at Longbranch Park. The team has been trying to raise money for suicide awareness. Chorus director Danielle Rausa and Orchestra director John Harnois were there to support their team and walk with the students. 4D Productions was also on hand for some great music! So far, the team has raised over $1,000 of their $2,000 goal. Team captain Gen Costigan said, " I am part of PAC which stands for Productive Actions for Change. We are a school group at CNS and we formed to try and give people a space where they can be themselves and have fun while being supported. In 2019 we had two tragedies that affected everyone differently. I personally lost a good friend of mine and it made me see the world a little differently. C-NS choir also is a part of this amazing event. we now help the AFSP through Chorus and ask for your support. I know times are hard now but if we all are a little kinder the world will be a better place. Thank you so much!"
C-NS student Maddy Gessini was interviewed about her own struggles with mental health. Click here to see the story online.
If you’d like to donate to the team go to https://supporting.afsp.org/team/CNSchorus and select "Roster" and then choose one of the team members listed. Once you're on their page, click "Donate Now." Donations can only be made to individuals, but the total each participant raises goes toward the CNS team goal.
